Job Overview

As a Warehouse Material Specialist, your primary responsibilities will include the accurate selection, packaging, and dispatch of customer orders. You will also oversee the counting, verification, receipt, and storage of incoming materials from vendors and customer returns. A keen eye for detail is essential to maintain high standards of customer service and satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all Health and Safety regulations while executing job tasks.
  • Manage the loading and unloading of delivery vehicles, and operate forklifts and other material handling machinery.
  • Receiving tasks involve: Upon arrival of vendor shipments or customer returns, collect the packing slip and confirm the materials received. Document any discrepancies or damages. Print and validate computer receiving records and log materials into the inventory system. Identify special orders and damaged goods, ensuring they are stored correctly. Record any shipping discrepancies on the freight carrier's Bill of Lading, initiate claims, and route necessary documentation to the appropriate personnel.
  • Picking, packing, and shipping tasks include: Select materials for customer orders, ensuring accurate counts and comparisons with shipping documents. Prepare materials for collection or shipment to customers. Complete all necessary documentation for shipments handled by third-party carriers or those requiring Transportation of Dangerous Goods documentation.
  • Report any inventory discrepancies and damaged or defective materials that could affect customer service to the Supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean and safe warehouse environment by disposing of empty cartons, metal banding, pallets, and other waste.
  • Notify the Warehouse Supervisor and/or Profit Centre Manager of any safety concerns within the warehouse.
  • Assist colleagues in providing service to customers at the counter.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned by the Profit Centre Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent; post-secondary education is an asset.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a warehouse setting.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to acquire comprehensive product knowledge.
  • Capability to learn and safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in order processing.
  • Proficient in learning and using the relevant software systems for order processing.
  • Intermediate mathematical skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with plumbing and building products typically sold at the Profit Centre.
  • Experience with software such as Trend, Eclipse, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
