Lead Communications Systems Engineer

AECOM Western Canada is in search of a Senior Communications Systems Engineer with expertise in Transportation Systems to join our dynamic Systems Engineering team. This role involves contributing to a diverse range of projects, both current and future.
Key Responsibilities:- Design comprehensive Communications sub-systems tailored for Transportation systems, including fibre optic and IP backbone networks, radio communications, integrated systems, passenger information systems, telephony, CCTV, intrusion detection, access control, SCADA, and fire alarm systems.
- Create detailed design documentation such as block diagrams, riser diagrams, network layouts, equipment configurations, cable schedules, bill of materials, and link budgets.
- Compile design reports throughout all phases of the project lifecycle.
- Develop testing protocols and reports to ensure design verification and validation.
- Prepare construction-ready drawings and documentation packages.
- Engage in the implementation phase of projects, including installation, testing, commissioning, cutover, and final reporting.
- Assist in procurement by drafting technical specifications, evaluating vendor bids, and aiding in vendor selection.
- Oversee and coordinate with Systems vendors until project completion.
- Collaborate with various technical disciplines such as Power Supply, Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, Architectural, and Civil to ensure seamless integration of Systems.
- Manage System Interfaces and produce Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
- Lead technical discussions with clients, operators, and key stakeholders.
- Facilitate technical training for client personnel.
- Contribute to project planning documentation.
- Participate in Requirements Management initiatives.
- Assist in estimating costs, scheduling, and budgeting for projects.
- Conduct technical reviews of designs produced by team members.
- Engage in project pursuit activities.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in designing Systems for rail and transit projects.
- Professional Engineer designation.
- Valid Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 8 or more years of experience in rail and transit systems.
- Experience with transit systems in Western Canada is preferred; experience in Eastern Canada is an asset.
- Background in an Owner's Engineer role.
- Familiarity with designing systems such as IP backbone networks, integrated communications, passenger information systems, telephony, SCADA, and fire safety systems.
- Experience in Testing & Commissioning, Cutover, Interface Management, and Operations & Maintenance.
- Knowledge of relevant codes and standards for rail projects, including NFPA 130 and EN 50121.
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary project environment with a focus on Communications sub-systems design.
- Self-driven and capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Proficient in leading discussions with senior project staff, partners, clients, and suppliers.
- Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to travel for work.
