Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and mentor the Veterinary Assistant team, ensuring high standards of care.
  • Facilitate the onboarding and training of new staff members.
  • Guide team members in essential tasks such as feeding, cleaning, and administering medical treatments to animals.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of operational processes and procedures.
  • Assess daily priorities, manage workflow, and assign tasks to Veterinary Assistants.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the shelter and animal enclosures.
  • Ensure proper care and provision of food, water, and enrichment for all animals.
  • Manage the intake process for animals, including vaccinations and health assessments.
  • Operate cleaning equipment to maintain hygiene standards.
  • Assist pet owners in locating lost animals.
  • Develop and manage staff schedules, including on-call coverage.
  • Provide insights into long-term staffing needs.
  • Prepare the shelter for events and ensure proper maintenance and cleaning protocols are followed.
  • Monitor inventory levels and order supplies as necessary.
  • Coordinate maintenance and servicing of equipment.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a veterinary clinic or animal shelter, including supervisory experience.
  • Recent experience in animal handling is essential.
  • Certification as a Veterinary Technician Assistant is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with the Chameleon database is a plus.
  • Strong communication, team-building, and organizational skills are critical for success in this role.

Working Conditions:

Expect regular exposure to various conditions, including potential hazards associated with animal care, such as zoonotic diseases and aggressive animals. This role also involves managing psychological challenges related to at-risk animals.
