Job Summary

The City of Ottawa's Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services department is seeking a skilled Youth and Child Care Worker to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering community recreation programs and services that promote social skills, physical activity, and inclusivity for children and youth with diverse needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement programs that cater to the needs of children and youth with attention deficit, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, conduct disorder, and other learning disabilities.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the delivery of high-quality programs and services that meet the needs of diverse populations.
  • Provide support and guidance to children and youth, promoting social skills, emotional regulation, and physical activity.
  • Collaborate with community partners to develop and deliver programs that address the needs of individuals with disabilities and other barriers to access recreation services.
Requirements
  • Completion of a college diploma or university degree in Recreation, Child Care/Youth Worker, Kinesiology, or Physical Education.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with multi-cultural youth aged 12 and up.
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR, and/or AED certificates.
  • Crisis Prevention/Intervention training certificate.
  • AODA Customer Service/IASR Training.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of legislation protecting the rights of special needs clients and populations.
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of City of Ottawa and Parks & Recreation Branch policies and procedures.
  • Adherence to relevant standards of practice.
