Position Overview

The role of the Senior Associate in Product Compliance and Onboarding & Nesting Team (O&NT) is pivotal within the Compliance Operations (C-Ops) department, which operates under the Product Assurance, Risk & Security (PARS) organization. This position is specifically located in Costa Rica and does not provide relocation assistance. Candidates must be authorized to work in Costa Rica to be considered.

About Compliance Operations

Compliance Operations (C-OPS) is tasked with executing operational and transactional duties for various programs within the S3C Organization, which encompasses Safety, Sustainability, Security, and Compliance. The primary focus of the SJO team is to oversee the LATAM region, including the Mexico and Brazil marketplaces. Our commitment to quality is essential in achieving safety and regulatory compliance for both our customers and the organization.

Role Responsibilities

We are seeking a Global Trade Compliance Classification Specialist to support our expanding business needs. The specialist will interpret trade laws and collaborate with colleagues to ensure accurate product classification in line with country-specific customs regulations and trade requirements. This role involves direct interaction with Amazon Operations, Retail teams, Legal, and various global internal businesses and external vendors to facilitate import/export compliance throughout the supply chain.

Key Job Responsibilities

As a Global Trade Process Expert, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with import/export regulations across multiple countries, including Brazil, Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Specific duties may include:

  • Managing Customs Broker requests for Import Clearance across various marketplaces.
  • Reviewing products to ensure adherence to import laws, Trademark regulations, and other requirements.
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders to resolve import issues promptly.
  • Determining product specifications necessary for lab testing to assess import viability.
  • Supporting compliance with local and US regulations for import/export processes.
  • Determining HTS Classification for various countries and product type classifications for risk assessment.
Growth Opportunities

In addition to operational responsibilities, the Global Trade Specialist I will progressively take on larger organizational roles, which may include:

  • Creating and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions.
  • Communicating updates from stakeholders to the Process Expert/Manager.
  • Identifying and implementing process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Conducting quality assessments and root cause analyses on process gaps, recommending corrective actions.
  • Training and mentoring new hires and other associates, and suggesting improvements to training programs.
  • Analyzing metrics and KPIs, troubleshooting reports, and managing multiple data sources.
  • Collaborating with Amazon's Global Trade Compliance team to execute strategies and explore automation opportunities.
  • Working with internal technology teams to develop scalable trade compliance processes.
  • Flexibility to work on rotating shifts as needed.
Important Considerations
  • Selected candidates will be required to work in a hybrid model, with at least three days per week at the corporate office.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Customs Administration and/or Foreign Trade Management.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in case management, quality assurance, investigation, e-commerce, risk management, or related roles.
  • At least 1 year of experience in stakeholder management.
  • Experience in coaching, mentoring, or training.
  • Advanced proficiency in English (C1).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in regulatory compliance or internal audits.
  • Experience with HTS Classification for any country.
  • Background in product safety and regulatory compliance management with government agencies.
