Opportunity Overview

The Toronto office of Smith + Andersen is on the lookout for a BIM Technician. This role is specialized and requires proficiency in the Autodesk Revit platform for building information modeling. The BIM Technician will operate under the guidance of a project engineer or designer, preparing comprehensive drawing packages that include plans, layouts, schematics, and detailed drawings.

Develop and/or design for a specific discipline, preparing drawing packages in line with Smith + Andersen's standard drawing protocols. Create and/or modify a Building Information Model (BIM) based on sketches, mark-ups, and design requirements as dictated by the project team. Ensure accuracy by reviewing models against markups in both three-dimensional and two-dimensional formats. Collaborate with other disciplines to address design changes and model challenges. Maintain and populate the parametric database within the model to meet project specifications. Identify and resolve interferences or spatial issues with the project team, utilizing Revit or other software as necessary. Prepare documentation for issuance, plotting, and archiving. Organize and manage models within the appropriate project directory in accordance with company standards. Follow office BIM standards and prototype guidelines, including the project BIM Execution Plan and Level of Development matrix. Layout mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) equipment, identifying potential clashes and producing schematic drawings as needed. Review mechanical or electrical service layouts for conflicts with major structural elements. Generate models using Navisworks. Perform any additional BIM-related tasks necessary for the completion of working drawings. Candidate Profile A college diploma in Building Information Modelling, Architecture, Mechanical or Electrical services, or a related field with relevant experience. Familiarity with building service systems such as plumbing, HVAC, lighting, and electrical systems is preferred. Knowledge of installation practices for mechanical and electrical systems is advantageous. Understanding of structural, mechanical, architectural, lighting, and electrical models to recognize spatial constraints and conflicts is beneficial. Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of liaising with design teams and external BIM teams or clients. Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment. Highly motivated with a keen attention to detail and a willingness to accept guidance. Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
