Temporary Part Time Position
Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, this role operates within a dynamic recovery framework for clients and their families, adhering to established standards of practice and the organization's core values. The position involves collaboration within a team-oriented environment, promoting a comprehensive leisure lifestyle that addresses the social, physical, spiritual, emotional, and cognitive needs of clients.
Key Responsibilities
Design, plan, facilitate, schedule, and implement a variety of therapeutic recreation programs in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Conduct assessments to develop individualized recreation plans, maintain patient documentation, and evaluate various individual and group recreation initiatives.Required Qualifications
A degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies with a focus on Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited institution. Current certification in CPR/First Aid. Active membership with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO). 3-5 years of experience in an Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Unit and Mental Health Day Hospital Program.Additional Skills and Experience
Experience as a primary therapist capable of managing a caseload in a Mental Health Day Hospital Program. Strong understanding of therapeutic recreation principles and practices. Proven ability to develop, organize, and implement leisure and recreation programs while assessing leisure needs and goals. Experience in facilitating both individual and group interventions. Ability to discern relevant information for effective patient care planning. Competence in accessing community resources and working effectively with a diverse clientele. Self-directed and capable of independently facilitating programs. Ability to collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary team. Excellent interpersonal, listening, and communication skills in English, enabling effective interaction with patients, families, and colleagues. Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities. Initiative and adaptability to new or unexpected situations. Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development. Proven reliability in attendance. Understanding and compliance with safety policies and procedures to foster a safe and inclusive environment. Capability to perform essential job duties. Ability to analyze research and implement evidence-based practices into policy and clinical practice. Demonstrates behaviors consistent with Mackenzie Health's Commitment to Caring. Dedication to providing an exceptional experience for staff and clients in a challenging healthcare environment.Preferred Qualifications
Experience with EPIC. Current certification in non-violent crisis intervention. Experience supervising Recreation Therapy students and volunteers.Note: You may be required to work at any site of Mackenzie Health.
