Job Summary
The Home Care Attendant (HCA) plays a vital role in supporting individuals or groups of home care clients in their daily lives. Under the guidance of the Home Care Resource Coordinator, the HCA provides personal care and home support services to clients with varying needs, including frail, physically disabled, and mentally challenged individuals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing paraprofessional services to assist clients with daily living activities, such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
- Assisting clients with meal preparation, medication management, and other essential tasks.
- Supporting clients with mobility and transfer needs, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Communicating effectively with clients, families, and healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care coordination.
Requirements:
- Proficiency in both official languages (English/French) is essential.
- Grade 12 education is required, with a Home Care Attendant Certificate or Health Care Aide Certificate with a community component from a recognized post-secondary institute.
- Knowledge of Safe Food Handling is necessary.
- Previous experience working with the elderly or disabled in a community setting is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member, with excellent critical thinking skills.
- Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population.
- Good work and attendance record.
Conditions of Employment:
- Completing and maintaining a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check, as appropriate.
- Immunization as a condition of employment, in accordance with Southern Health-Santé Sud policy.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license, an all-purpose insured vehicle, and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.00.
