Job Summary

We are seeking a Material Handling Specialist to join our Material Handling team. This team plays a critical role in our success by managing supplies, material movement, storage and inventory, and the safe transport and receipt of samples, chemicals, equipment and other items to and from our facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely handle materials: Safely handle materials such as lab samples and products, ensuring that all necessary safety protocols are followed.
  • Manage inventory: Effectively manage inventory, ensuring accuracy and tracking data is processed in a timely manner.
  • Receive and process materials: Receive all incoming material, apply barcodes and communicate to applicable individuals.
  • Organize and dispose of materials: Organize and dispose of expired or no longer needed materials.
  • Maintain databases: Maintain and update databases (LIMS, Barcode).
  • Process transportation requests: Process transportation (TDG) requests.
  • Order and maintain supplies: Order and maintain minimum levels of supplies including lab coats, compressed gases and other lab and office supplies.
  • Develop and improve processes: Provide input into the development of safe standard operating procedures and provide updates and improvements to existing processes.
  • Operate warehouse equipment: Move materials within a warehouse environment with the use of a forklift, manual or power pallet jack.
  • Interact with customers and shipping companies: Regularly interact with customers and shipping companies/couriers.
  • Pack and ship materials: Safely package materials for shipping purposes.
  • Complete customs compliance documentation: Fill out customs compliance documentation for cross border shipments.

Requirements

  • Education: Minimum High School diploma with 4-5 years direct materials handling and shipping/receiving experience.
  • Certifications: Supply Chain Management certification would be an advantage. Forklift certification. TDG certification.
  • Skills: Strong safety mindset and experience with writing and reviewing procedures. Direct shipping / receiving experience. Warehouse and inventory management experience. Computerized inventory management and tracking systems experience. Good attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Solid interpersonal and communication skills. Strong computer skills. Strong customer interaction skills. Knowledge and practical experience with customs compliance processes is an asset.
