Job Summary

Brandt is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Technician - Material Handling Specialist to join our team in Calgary. As a key member of our Material Handling Service Department, you will be responsible for performing complex diagnostics, service maintenance, and repair work on customer and dealer-owned equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Performance:
    • Work within budgets and approvals provided by the Service Manager to maintain a high level of productivity, efficiency, and gross margin.
    • Maintain a quality of work metric of 98% by accurately recording all work done for customer and warranty records.
  • Work Systems and Procedures:
    • Maintain current product knowledge of equipment specific to industry/branch location and follow all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments.
    • Ensure knowledge and compliance of proper procedure for disposal of hazardous waste material and work within the guidelines set by the directors and managers.
    • Perform all service tasks as assigned by the Material Handling Service Manager or the Material Handling Service Department Foreman.
    • Mentor and oversee apprentices to ensure they are properly trained and equipped to perform their duties.
  • Diagnostic and Mechanical, Electrical, or Hydraulic Repair:
    • Perform basic/complex power equipment diagnostics to determine repair needs and diagnose and repair all related systems.
    • Perform customer, manufacturer, or government inspections on equipment and perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
    • Utilize drill presses, grinders, air compressors, and common hand/power tools to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on material handling equipment.
Requirements
  • Required Skills:
    • Outstanding knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic systems, and propane systems.
    • Demonstrated diagnostic skills to understand mechanical and electrical systems of battery and engine-powered material handling equipment.
    • Experience with the use of hand tools and measuring devices, and electrical/electronic diagnostic tools/measurements.
    • Knowledge and experience with industrial equipment that includes lifting/rigging, maintaining, dismantling, and installing machinery and industrial mechanical service equipment.
    • Exposure to aligning equipment, using dial indicators/calipers, micrometers, hoists, or jacks is a plus.
  • Required Experience:
    • Previous mechanical experience in a heavy equipment environment is preferred.
    • Certified Journeyperson in the Heavy Duty Equipment technician trade or equivalent designated trade preferred.
    • Must be committed to customer service and service excellence.
