Job Summary

The Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading fitness classes to senior clients under the direction of the Program Supervisor and/or Registered Kinesiologist associated with the program and in line with the certification standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leads fitness classes to senior clients, promoting physical activity and well-being.
  • Works with clients to set and achieve fitness goals, providing guidance and support throughout the process.
  • Participates in ongoing review and evaluation of service delivery, ensuring high-quality programming and client satisfaction.
  • Attends educational in-services and training sessions to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Provides fall prevention education and promotes healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Reports incidents and ensures timely reporting in accordance with legislation and VON policies and procedures.
  • Ensures a safe and healthy environment for clients and staff.
External and Internal Relationships
  • Frequent interaction with Program Supervisor, clients, and other team members.
Education, Designations, and Experience
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • CCAA Certification as a Seniors Fitness Instructor or equivalent is an asset.
  • 2 years of experience teaching group fitness classes for older adults, including experience teaching specialized classes for chronic conditions.
  • Experience promoting health and well-being through physical activity.
  • Experience working in an assisted living environment, such as recreation therapy, is an asset.
  • Bilingual in French/English is an asset.

  • Capacity to work well independently and as part of a team.
Other Requirements
  • Must have access to a personal vehicle for business use and possess a current driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Current criminal background check, including a vulnerable sector screen, is required.
  • The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required.
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities

Attention to detail; Lift and carry using appropriate lifting techniques; Bend, push, pull, grip, reach, kneel, crouch using good body mechanics; Walk, sit, stand, climb stairs; Hand movements.
