As an Assistant Manager of Finance and Commercial Risk, you will play a crucial role in our Winnipeg office, contributing significantly to our financial management efforts:
Key Responsibilities- Lead the management of all financial matters, including monthly operational reporting, quarterly financial assessments, mid-year and year-end business planning, and comprehensive financial year-end accounting.
- Analyze monthly forecasts, district/project recoveries, and various reconciliations to ensure accuracy.
- Collaborate with project teams to identify, communicate, and mitigate financial and insurance-related risks and opportunities.
- Assist in the implementation, monitoring, and compliance with company and project insurance policies and procedures.
- Evaluate and coordinate insurance, bonding, and other performance security requirements to ensure compliance.
- Clarify insurance prerequisites and provide training for district/project staff in partnership with Risk Management.
- Oversee the strategy and preparation of insurance, subcontractor default insurance, and legal claims.
- Draft and negotiate various contractual agreements.
- Serve as the district's Chief Security Officer (CSO), ensuring compliance with security requirements for federal government contracts.
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in a relevant field (Accounting, Finance, Insurance & Risk Management, or Legal).
- Professional designation in Accounting, Insurance, Legal, or Risk Management is an advantage.
- Over 10 years of progressive accounting experience in the construction or related sectors.
- At least 2 years of experience dealing with risk management and legal matters is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in managing an Accounting, Finance, Risk Management, or Legal department.
- Strong financial management skills with advanced knowledge of accounting practices, budget management, financial forecasting, analysis, and reporting.
- Familiarity with bid and contract securities and insurance as they pertain to risk management, claims management, pricing, and accounting.
- Understanding of contract and construction law concerning tender documents, project contracts, and claims management.
