As a business partner and broad HR technical expert, you will work closely with leaders, union representatives, and employees to ensure compliance with collective agreements, labour laws, and university policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a liaison between the university and unions to ensure effective communication and adherence to collective agreements.">
  • Provides guidance to managers and employees on HR policies, procedures, and collective agreement interpretation.">
  • Collaborates with union leaders and management to resolve labour relations issues and grievances.">
  • Prepares step one grievance responses, conducts labour law research and supports the arbitration process.">
  • Partners with the HR team to design and implement HR programs and initiatives that align with business objectives and collective agreements.">
  • Supports collective bargaining, implements negotiated collective agreements and provides advice and guidance regarding contract interpretation.">
  • Supports leaders with investigations into employee complaints, grievances, and workplace disputes.">

  • University degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field and five years of related work experience in a complex unionized organization, or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training.">
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing the principles of truth, reconciliation and respect, equity, diversity and inclusion, and contributing to an inclusive and respectful working and learning environment.">
  • Ability to apply principles of decolonization, anti-racism, equity, diversity and inclusion to labour relations related matters.">
  • Comprehensive and current knowledge of labour laws, regulations, and HR best practices.">
  • Ability to adapt to workplace changes and to support client managers with organizational change plans and implementation.">
  • Experience managing adversarial situations where there is conflict and leading conflict resolution.">
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.">
  • Experience working with highly confidential and sensitive information with empathy and compassion.">
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.">
  • Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with managers, union representatives, employees, and HR colleagues.">
  • Proven track record of successfully managing HR initiatives and projects.">
  • Designation as a Chartered Professional in Human Resources or other HR certification is an asset.">
