What you're passionate about

Spelling and grammar matter in your world, and you have a knack for writing, editing and proofing content that is clear, concise and effective by avoiding things like unnecessary capitalization and "quotation marks", passive voice and run-on sentences. You understand the value of using spell check and Grammarly, but you could teach them a few things when it comes to accurate and effective writing. Whatever the medium, you're ready to create content for it. Whether it's writing website copy in the voice of a client or preparing an all-staff communication, you take pride in sharing the right message at the right time in the right way.

A typical day for the Content Strategist

- Concept development and writing for external communications, including website content, website news articles, handbooks, member letters and other member-specific communications, newsletter articles and corporate reports.
- Concept development and writing for internal communications, including education materials, reports, forms, presentations and speaking notes, intranet blogs and announcements, staff and manager bulletins, articles, surveys and briefing notes.
- Aligning content with communication strategies, key messages, voice, style and brand.
- Liaising with business subject matter experts for the creation and implementation of internal and external content.
- Editing copy received from content contributors and peers, and ensuring it adheres to APS standards and style guides, including the Canadian Press Stylebook.
- Updating and maintaining time-sensitive material.
- Compiling and analyzing website usage statistics and using metadata and other methods to optimize search engine positions.

What you bring

- Minimum of 5 years of experience in communications or journalism.
- Degree, diploma or certification from an accredited post-secondary institution in a related field.
- Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel), SharePoint and Microsoft 365 knowledge.
- Applied knowledge of best practices for various forms of writing (web, print, business letter, technical, marketing, presentation, script, executive speeches).
- Proficiency with search engine optimization techniques and meta-tagging.
- Website statistics and how to interpret them to measure against communications goals.
- Adobe Acrobat, Google Analytics, as well as cloud-based content software such as Gather Content.
- Ability to think strategically, weigh communications issues and offer effective solutions.
- Superior research, writing, editing and proofing skills.
- Ability to write in various voices, styles and standards, and modify voice based on brand or audience.
- Expert skill at writing and modifying content for a variety of communication channels.
