Title: Primary Care Nurse, First Nations Virtual Doctor of the Day (FNvDOD)
Salary: $91,965 - $110,933 per year
Contract: Term role – April 14, 2025 to May 29, 2025
Hours: Standard hours, 37.5 hours per week (core hours 9am-3pm Mon-Fri)
Location: Metro Vancouver Area (Hybrid working is an option in line with FNHA's flex work policy).
Bargaining Unit: PIPSC BCFNHA Group (Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada)
About the role
As Primary Care Nurse (FNvDOD), you will provide access to culturally safe, high quality care. FNHA launched 2 virtual service pathways in 2020: 1) The First Nations Virtual Doctor of the Day (FNvDOD), and 2) The First Nations Virtual Substance Use and Psychiatry Service (FNvSUPS). These services currently provide virtual access to primary care, substance use, and mental health services. Following the success of our first 2 years of service provision, FNHA is expanding the services and staffing mix for both pathways.
Working within an innovative and growing virtual team-based care environment, the FNvDOD Primary Care Nurse is a key role and a collaborative leader within our virtual team-based environment. You will work with the multi-disciplinary team to provide client-centered, culturally safe and trauma-informed direct virtual primary care services to clients at all life stages. You will actively contribute to ensuring a racism-free and culturally safe environment for all clients, their families, and staff.
About you
To be successful in this role you will have:
Education, Certification & Experience
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Bachelor's Degree in Psychiatric Nursing from a recognized university.
• Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
• A minimum of 3 years of recent related experience in primary care, public health, community and/or chronic disease care.
• Experience working with and delivering health services to First Nations clients.
• Training in anti-Indigenous racism response and cultural safety and humility.
• Experience integrating holistic Indigenous approaches with Western approaches.
Knowledge & Competencies
• Strong knowledge and ability to apply cultural safety, humility and trauma-informed approaches to practice.
• Knowledge of First Nations cultural principles and protocols in work situations.
• Knowledge of health status of populations, inequities in health, the determinants of health and illness, principles of primary care, strategies for health promotion, disease and injury prevention, health protection, curative, urgent and emergent care, rehabilitation and supportive or palliative care.
• Knowledge of nursing processes, conceptual frameworks of nursing, theories and principles of nursing practice.
• Ability to apply a two-eyed seeing approach to balance western and Traditional Indigenous worldviews in practice.
• Understanding of own intersectionality, power, privilege, and how these concepts may impact own work and perspectives.
• An understanding of rural and remote communities and their inherent challenges and barriers.
• Ability to create and foster a healthy and engaging environment that enables personal excellence, contributing to FNHA's vision of "Health through Wellness" and cultural safety and humility in the workplace.
• Demonstrated understanding and integration of Trauma Informed Practice to care.
