Responsibilities

- Work in the Facilities Management – Recreation Facilities unit, performing supervisory, operational, technical and building maintenance work in a multipurpose arena facility.

- Assign, review, supervise and participate in the work of staff engaged in ice making, routine building and equipment maintenance and repair, janitorial and custodial tasks.

- Provide direction and training on work methods and procedures; ensure safety protocols are followed; resolve minor operational or staff problems and provide feedback to staff.

- Ensure effective functioning of refrigeration and ice‑making equipment; inspect pumps, valves, filters, meters, motors and gauges; troubleshoot problems and determine corrective action.

- Carry out maintenance programs involving checking mechanical system components’ operation and making necessary adjustments.

- Assist in developing and implementing preventive maintenance schedules and procedures for all equipment such as ice resurfacers, edgers, HVAC and other related systems; report on and recommend major repair work.

- Perform minor repairs and building maintenance work; conduct safety checks on fire extinguishers, fire alarms and other safety equipment.

- Maintain an inventory of cleaning products, building maintenance materials and equipment hardware.

- Obtain and oversee services of private contractors, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.

- Provide information and assistance to the public and facility user groups.

- Perform related work as required.

Qualifications

- Completion of Grade 12 plus technical courses related to the work or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

- Sound knowledge of operating principles and procedures of ice‑making and refrigeration equipment and building maintenance and repair practices.

- Knowledge of heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment and related systems.

- Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems and carpentry applicable to facility maintenance.

- Ability to supervise, assign, review and participate in the work of staff in icemaking, building maintenance and janitorial tasks.

- Ability to operate, maintain and repair equipment typically used in a multipurpose arena.

- Ability to identify causes of equipment failure and potential problems; assist in developing and executing preventive maintenance schedules and procedures.

- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and perform tasks under minimal supervision.

- Refrigeration Operator’s Certificate, First Aid Certificate or equivalent, and a valid Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia are required.

- Police Information Check may be required for this position.

Schedule

40 hours weekly; shifts are scheduled 7 days per week between the hours of 5:30 am and 1:30 am and may change outside these hours based on operational requirements.
