Musical Director of Flato Markham Theatre Discovery Camps

Job Summary

We are looking for a Musical Director who is creative, organized and adaptable to oversee and manage all the musical elements of the Theatre’s Discovery Performing Arts March Break and Summer Camp. Under the direction of the Discovery Program Coordinator and Artistic Director, the Musical Director www.flatomarkhamtheatre.ca (MD) will oversee the musical program requirements during the planning and program delivery for the One week March Break and eight-week Summer Camp programs which culminate with a fully staged musical theatre production at the end of each session. Through strategic programming choices, the MD will enable children and youth to develop skills, make friends, socialize and build self-esteem. Accountable for day-to-day operations as they relate to the position for all camp programming operations while ensuring camp activities are safe, inclusive and high quality. The MD will assist the Artistic Director to oversee program delivery with approximately 40 staff including Program Supervisors, Counsellors and Volunteers.

Part time training hours between February 23, 2026 – March 15, 2026

Full time hours from March 16, 2026 – March 20, 2026 (min 35-44 hours/week),

SUMMER CAMP

Part Time hours from late April 2026 – June 26th 2026

Full time hours June 29 – August 21st 2026 (no camp July 1st and August 3, 2026)

The Discovery Performing Arts Camps

offered for more than 20 years in Markham, is a high-demand, inclusive program designed to engage youth as they develop life skills such as team work, confidence and self-expression through the performing arts. There are currently 7 different programs running in various locations (including the Flato Markham Theatre). These programs include; Kinder Camp (ages 4-5), Junior Stars (ages 6-7), Rising Stars (8-9) Drama Camp (ages 10-11), Perform for the Big Screen (March Break), Actors Workshop (Summer) (ages 12-15)

Job Requirements

- Post secondary education in Performing Arts, with a primary focus in music, Arts Education and/or related field OR Experience as a professional in the performing arts as a Musical Director or musical performer or performing arts educator/instructor specializing in music

- Demonstrated professional training in Music, specifically piano and vocal (RCM training and certifications are an asset), proficient in sight-reading music

- Minimum 3 years experience in a Musical Director/Leadership role and has demonstrated successful execution of similar programs for a large group of children of various ages

- Experience designing and delivering programs in music with a focus on musical theatre for children

- Professional experience in youth arts education, musical theatre production and experience in a camp environment • Ability to plan and execute the musical components of a musical theatre production from beginning stages to show day, including, but not limited to teaching musical content to children, www.flatomarkhamtheatre.ca adapting musical arrangements as needed, providing musical accompaniment on piano/keyboard during rehearsals

- Experience teaching a wide range of ages and skill levels/abilities Able to lead vocal warm ups, teach the importance of vocal health, transpose music, record and edit musical tracks, cast roles and lead basic choreography direction as needed Strong verbal/written communication skills

- Excellent customer service skills and sensitivity to interact with a diversity of parents and staff in a courteous and efficient manner

- Licenses/Certifications: Current Standard First Aid with CPR ‘C’ required; All offers of employment for this position will be conditional upon satisfactory reference checks, vulnerable sector checks
