Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) to serve as a clinical practitioner and member of the research team in the Office of Human Research Services (OHRS) at the Rutgers Cancer Institute.

Job Summary

The APN will provide clinical trial management, collaborative care, and educational support for oncology patients in ambulatory and hospital settings (pending privileging). Key responsibilities include advanced patient assessment, research protocol management, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

- Coordinate and ensure safe, competent care for assigned research protocols.

- Perform comprehensive health histories and physical exams, and communicate findings to the Principal Investigator.

- Develop individualized nursing and medical care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.

- Initiate diagnostic, therapeutic, and nursing actions per protocol and monitor participant compliance.

- Administer investigational agents as required.

- Provide acute and routine follow‑up care, assessing progress, identifying problems, and initiating preventive measures.

- Adjust medications and implement nutrition therapies per protocol or medical plan.

- Assist with protocol implementation and develop study‑specific templates and documentation.

- Demonstrate in‑depth oncology and general medical‑surgical knowledge, providing rationale for clinical decisions.

- Serve as a role model in advanced practice oncology nursing.

- Participate in professional organizations and attend continuing education focused on the oncology population.

Qualifications

- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a Master’s Degree.

- Certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse by the Board of Nursing with prescriptive authority in New Jersey.

- Certified as a Nurse Practitioner with an Oncology Specialization. If not obtained at hire, must be obtained within one year.

- At least two years of nursing experience in an oncology specialty area, preferably in an advanced practice role.

Certifications / Licenses

- Advanced Practice Nurse certification (state prescriptive authority).

- American Heart Association: Basic Cardiac Life Support.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

- Effective oral and written communication skills.

- Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).

- Own vehicle or alternative transportation for inter‑site travel.

Preferred Qualifications

- Clinical research experience.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, speaking, hearing; lifting up to 25 lbs.

Work Environment: Office setting with moderate noise.

Salary Details

Grade 09S – Minimum Salary: $145,178; Mid Range: $167,479; Maximum: $191,311.
