Overview

High Tide is seeking a dynamic and fast paced Payroll and Benefits Specialist that is starting out in your field and wants to learn and grow with us Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources, the Payroll and Benefits Specialist will provide support in all activities regarding the management and administration of employee compensation, time & attendance, and benefits administration for various employees and legal entities throughout the organization. The incumbent will undertake a variety of tasks such as entering payroll information, calculating wages and making payments.

Responsibilities

1. Calculate pay according to hours worked incorporating leaves, overtime, vacation pay, statutory holidays, payroll deductions and other payroll transactions.
2. Lead and assist with company's benefits rollout program; ensure employees are onboarded; manage their enrollment and renewal.
3. Calculate benefits deductions, manage beneficiary forms, update portal with wage changes.
4. Maintain and manage time and attendance software for hourly staff including shift approvals, shift cancellations and shift scheduling.
5. Strong knowledge of termination process calculations as per employment standards across all Canadian provinces.
6. Initiate periodical payments; prepare and administer cheques, initiate direct deposits.
7. Work with HR and operational stakeholders to resolve payroll discrepancies.
8. Issue statements, invoices, receipts and maintain financial records.
9. Update paper and electronic payroll records by maintaining employee changes across various systems (adjustments on pay rates, transfers, new entity movement, consolidation, etc.).
10. Prepare ROE/T4 on a timely basis and assist with EI inquiries.
11. Support the Finance team with payroll reports (monthly headcount, quarterly report, etc. as needed).
12. Special projects & ad hoc reporting as required by internal stakeholders.
13. Onboard and offboard employees in the Payroll system.
14. Provide and assist management with Dayforce and timesheet approval training.
15. Cross reference various modules within HRIS to maintain data integrity.
16. Perform union deductions and calculations.
17. Report for worker's compensation for all provinces and administer Ontario employer health tax accordingly for all legal entities.

Qualifications

1. 1-3 years of experience.
2. Ability to work in a fast-paced and high volume environment with consistent growth and meet all deadlines.
3. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of an organization.
4. Some knowledge of payroll principles.
5. Some knowledge and experience using Ceridian Dayforce or other systems.
6. WSIB and WCB compliance for all Canadian provinces.
7. Experience and understanding of employer health taxes in Manitoba and Ontario.
8. Knowledge of CRA requirements for each provincial legislation.
9. Clear, concise and effective verbal and written communication skills.
10. Ability to tolerate a high degree of ambiguity and work in a highly dynamic, ever-changing environment while meeting deadlines.
11. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel.
12. Ability to work in an office environment.
13. Payroll designation (PCP, CPM) or in the process of completion in accordance with Canadian Payroll Association guidelines.
