Alberta Magazine Publishers Association (AMPA) is looking for a Events and Communications Manager to help advance AMPA's mission by leading delivery of professional development programs, industry events, and strategic communications. This position increases member engagement, strengthens industry visibility, fosters community connections, and supports AMPA's programs and initiatives.

The Alberta Magazine Publishers Association (AMPA) is a non-profit cultural industry association that supports Alberta magazine publishers, their staff, and contributors through professional development, advocacy, promotion, networking, and industry programming. AMPA fosters industry growth and champions the value of magazine media to stakeholders including communities of readers, media buyers, policy makers and funders.
Position Summary
The Events and Communications Manager plays a key role in advancing AMPA's mission by leading delivery of professional development programs, industry events, and strategic communications. This position increases member engagement, strengthens industry visibility, fosters community connections, and supports AMPA's programs and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Communications and Marketing
- Maintain and regularly update the AMPA website with news, events, job postings, resources, and industry information.
- Develop and implement communications strategies that support AMPA's strategic goals and member engagement objectives.
- Create and manage content for newsletters, social media channels, the website, press releases, promotional materials, and member communications.
- Ensure consistency of AMPA's brand and messaging across all communications platforms.
- Monitor website, email, and social media analytics to evaluate performance and inform communications planning. Event Management
- Plan, coordinate, and deliver virtual and in-person professional development events, including webinars, workshops, the annual Alberta Magazines Conference, and the Alberta Magazine Awards program and gala.
- Manage event logistics, including timelines, registration systems, venue bookings, contracts, speaker coordination, and travel arrangements.
- Recruit, train, and supervise event volunteers.
- Track event performance and prepare post-event evaluations and reports. Program Administration
- Support the preparation of grant applications, funding reports, and other organizational reporting requirements.
- Assist with member engagement initiatives and special projects as assigned. Qualifications The ideal candidate will have:
- A minimum of three years of experience in communications.
- Demonstrated success managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and balancing competing priorities.
- Experience planning and delivering events, conferences, webinars, or community programs.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to produce publication-quality content for diverse audiences.
- Experience managing social media platforms and digital communications.
- Experience using content management systems, particularly WordPress, as well as virtual meeting and event platforms.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- A commitment to delivering excellent service to members, stakeholders, and partners.
- The ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a small team environment.
- Flexibility and willingness to take on new responsibilities as organizational needs evolve.
- Knowledge of the magazine, publishing, or non-profit sector is considered an asset. Compensation and Working Conditions
- 30 hours per week at $30 per hour.
- Flexible work arrangements may be available.
- Some evening and occasional weekend work is required during events and projects. AMPA is committed to fostering a respectful, inclusive, and equitable workplace.
