Environmental Biotechnology Lead

As an Environmental Biotechnology Lead you will support projects that span multiple disciplines within our organization in order to deliver high quality and sustainable solutions to our clients. You will have the opportunity to expand your career by working on innovative and high-profile mining, energy, and municipal projects.

This unique position is focused on advancing site-specific technology readiness of our environmental biotechnologies related to water treatment and source control strategies. Your day-to-day blends desk consulting work with overseeing hands‑on development, laboratory testing, and pilot‑scale work for our clients’ projects in our one‑of‑a‑kind facilities in Saskatoon, paired with deployment of field trials. We don’t do routine analytical lab work – we conduct innovative technology advancement and site‑specific optimization. This role requires in‑person involvement in our Saskatoon office to oversee our laboratory team on critical lab work, in addition to reporting on the outcomes and related consulting work.

Your role will contribute to our mission of developing sustainable solutions through conducting research, studies, analysis, and quality control and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

We can consider candidates across all our Canadian offices, including Vancouver, Calgary, and Saskatoon.

Responsibilities

- Supporting the VP of Science and Innovation, you will be responsible for technical oversight on projects across our North American operations, including:

- Support for ensuring the quality and consistency of project/proposal deliverables within the discipline group.

- Review resourcing recommendations with internal teams.

- Coordinating day‑to‑day project activities for discipline staff as required.

- Support the development, coaching, and training of discipline staff with a focus on learning and increasing their knowledge and contributions for our environmental biotechnology service offerings, including biological and semi‑passive water treatment and biogeochemical source control.

- Write and/or review reports, memos, figures, tables and other technical documents.

- Support and coordinate junior team members in compiling regulatory documents associated with the studies conducted.

- Support Location Managers and VP Operations in identifying and recommending needs for specific skills in new hires and recruiting activities.

- Technical Oversight of Laboratory and Pilot‑scale trials, and contribute to the design of field‑ and full‑scale biogeochemical water treatment and source control projects:

- Participate in the development and design of treatability testing plans and experiments associated with our Saskatoon Lab facility and on‑site testing/pilot work, and provide technical oversight to the laboratory/pilot‑facility team.

- Lead the design, analysis, interpretation, recommendations, and reporting associated with these studies for water treatment systems and source control strategies for the mining and resources sectors.

- Learn and apply calculations associated with our proprietary technologies (e.g. mSource, mGrow, mBio).

- Contribute technical content and execution plans for proposals led by our Leadership and Business Development teams.

- Act as a strong brand ambassador, embodying the organizational values of having HEART: Hungry, Entrepreneurial, Accountable, Resourceful and Teamwork.

- Other commensurate duties as may reasonably be assigned to you.

What We’re Looking For

- Master’s or PhD degree in Environmental Biotechnology, Applied/Environmental Microbiology, Biogeochemistry, Geochemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Biological/Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.

- P.Chem., RP.Bio., or P.Eng. certification would be considered an asset.

- Hands‑on laboratory experience and supervisory experience in a laboratory or pilot setting are considered an asset.

- Preference will be given to applicants with 10+ years of applied experience in microbiological and/or geochemical analysis within environmental, mining, or water sectors.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Prior consulting advisory experience is considered an asset.

- Prior experience with project and/or technical team oversight is required.
