Structural Mechanical Engineer Montreal, QC

As a Structural Mechanical Engineer, you will contribute to the design, analysis, validation, and optimization of structural and mechanical components for passenger and freight rail vehicles. This role supports projects across the full lifecycle, including concept development, structural validation, manufacturing support, troubleshooting, and refurbishment.

Key responsibilities
- Design and develop structural and mechanical components for rolling stock.
- Produce engineering calculations, models, and technical documentation.
- Perform structural assessments using hand calculations and FEA methods.
- Validate designs against applicable standards and regulatory requirements.
- Support design reviews, inspections, testing, and validation activities.
- Participate in troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and engineering standards.
- Prepare technical reports, calculations, drawings, and certification deliverables.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and knowledge sharing. What We’re Looking For Education
- Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
- OIQ membership or eligibility is considered an asset. Experience & Technical Competencies
- 3+ years of relevant experience in general stress analysis, structural engineering, steel structures, or a related discipline.
- Ability to perform load calculations, determine load paths, evaluate reaction forces, and support structural design decisions.
- Strong aptitude for engineering mathematics, analytical problem-solving, and structural calculations.
- Experience in rolling stock, rail transportation, heavy vehicles, structural design, or related engineering environments is considered an asset.
- Experience with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks).
- Familiarity with structural analysis tools (e.g., HyperMesh, SimSolid) is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of weldments, fatigue design, bolted joints, and structural steel design principles.
- Ability to quickly understand and apply specialized engineering concepts related to rail vehicle structures and systems.
- Excellent technical communication skills, including technical reports and engineering documentation.
- Manufacturing or fabrication experience is considered an asset.
- Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset. How You Work

- Full-time position (40 hours/week).
