Overview

The Mechanical Engineer III is responsible for designing and developing robust and innovative medical devices and equipment to support the commercialization of company-developed products. Responsibilities include cost estimation, design, verification, and validation. The engineer will collaborate with partners to deliver designs of electromechanical assemblies.

Responsibilities

- Work with vendors to complete designs
- Review vendor-provided designs to ensure they meet product requirements
- Research design options and perform experiments to assess feasibility
- Complete high-level design; work with external partners on detailed design
- Collaborate closely with electrical and software engineers, designing with a system-wide perspective
- Interact with global and internal design and manufacturing resources to optimize for manufacturability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness
- Create and release product requirements, design specifications, and descriptions in compliance with medical device standards and internal procedures
- Ensure engineering documentation complies with corporate policies
- Review product documentation for accuracy, including customer-facing materials
- Participate in designing, prototyping, testing, and qualifying high-reliability medical devices
- Support risk assessments, design reviews, pre-production, testing, and regulatory submissions
- Evaluate product non-conformances and recommend design modifications using analytical techniques
- Assist in the development of intellectual property

Qualifications

- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in technical product or mechanical device design
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required; Master’s preferred
- P.Eng from EGBC preferred; ability and willingness to obtain P.Eng license required
- Extensive experience working with design partners
- Proficiency in SolidWorks and its add-ins
- Experience with plastic injection mold tool design, including insert molding and over-molding
- Proven project development skills in a medical device R&D environment
- Ability to define project goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting
- Experience working in a technical team environment
- Independent judgment using sound engineering principles
- Strong written communication skills with attention to detail

*For applicants without an Engineer in Training or Professional Engineer license, an alternative title will be used until a license is obtained. Verathon supports professional growth and reimburses expenses related to EGBC licensing.
