Senior Database Administrator (10+ years) to support Microsoft SQL Server, SAP/Sybase, and PostgreSQL database environments across on-premises and public cloud platforms
- 41506 Our financial services client is seeking a Senior Database Administrator (10+ years) to support Microsoft SQL Server, SAP/Sybase, and PostgreSQL database environments across on-premises and public cloud platforms
- 41506 Join a large-scale enterprise database operations team supporting critical banking platforms across multiple regions. This role focuses on database security, compliance, audit readiness, and operational support for SAP/Sybase, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server environments. The position offers exposure to advanced database security practices, cloud technologies, and highly regulated financial systems. The role includes participation in rotational on-call support and hybrid work flexibility. Contract Duration: 12 months
Location:
Toronto/Hybrid (2 days in office (flexible) and 3 days remote) Schedule Hours: 37.5 hours, 9:00 to 5:00pm. Possibility of Overtime: Overtime may be required as part of on-call support and maintenance, activities, with time worked outside regular business hours compensated through time in lieu. Possibility of Extension: TBD on business needs Story Behind the Need: The Global Technology and Enterprise Platform (GTEP) Database Operations team is responsible for providing end-to-end support for database platform products across all regions where the Bank operates. Our services span the full database lifecycle, including deployment, project support, ongoing post–go-live operations including maintenance of database security. Reporting to the DBA Manager, the Senior Database Administrator is responsible for supporting Microsoft SQL Server environments both on premises and in the public cloud. As part of the database administration team, you will contribute to ensuring optimal database availability, security, and performance. This role follows a hybrid work model (onsite and remote) and includes participation in a rotational on-call/on-shift schedule to provide after-hours support. The Database Administrator must be available to provide remote support in response to monitoring alerts, as well as to perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities during evenings and weekends (business will provide time in lieu) Role Responsibilities / Typical Day in Role:
- Manage database security/integrity, password complexity standards and backup procedures
- Assist with database design and development and tuning queries
- Ensure database security with knowledge of audit, compliance, security, backup/recovery, encryption at rest, and password policy enforcement.
- Support database compliance activities by validating access controls, password complexity requirements, privileged access, and security configurations against enterprise standards.
- Prepare for and support internal/external audits by collecting evidence, reviewing database controls, addressing audit findings, and maintaining appropriate documentation.
- Tackle complex problems through conceptualization and reasoning. Candidate Requirements / Must Have
Skills:
- 10+ Years as a Database Administrator
- Strong SAP/Sybase skill version 15.7 to current, PostgreSQL skills from version 14 to current.
- Knowledge of audit processes, security measures, encryption at rest
- Strong understanding of password complexity policies, authentication controls, role-based access, and privileged account management for PostgreSQL and MongoDB environments.
- Experience supporting compliance reviews, audit evidence collection, control validation, remediation tracking, and documentation for database platforms.
- Working knowledge of MS-Excel for report generation from diverse data sources Nice-To-Have
Skills:
- Familiarity with enterprise security standards, regulatory compliance requirements, and audit readiness practices in financial services environments.
- Experience with using AI to expedite solutions
- Proficiency in Spanish Educational
Requirements:
- Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Math, or related discipline. Best VS. Average Candidate: The ideal candidate would have experience with SAP/Sybase and PostgreSQL. They should also be competent working with Solaris, Linux and GCP or another Cloud Platform. They would bring strong security, password complexity, compliance, and audit readiness experience, including the ability to validate controls, support audit requests, and drive remediation of identified gaps. They would also need excellent communication skills and the ability to focus in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The candidate is proficient in Spanish and is available to work extended hours on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
