The Waterloo Region District School Board is currently seeking applications for Before and After School Support (B.A.S.S.) employees. B.A.S.S. employees will work alongside a Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) to support play-based programming for students in junior kindergarten to grade 6 who are registered in WRDSB’s Before and After school program to provide general student supervision. The successful candidate will:

Follow the guidance of the DECE operating the extended day classroom Support positive and responsive interactions among the children, parents, child care providers and staff; Encourage children to interact and communicate in a positive way and support their ability to self-regulate; Support the children’s exploration, play and inquiry; Support child-initiated and adult-supported experiences; Support positive learning environments and experiences in which each child’s learning and development will be supported and which is inclusive of all children, including children with individualized plans; Support indoor and outdoor play as well as active play, rest and quiet time, into the day, and give consideration to the individual needs of the children receiving child care; Foster the engagement of and ongoing communication with parents about the program and their children; Follow licensing requirements under the Child Care and Early Years Act; Foster an anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and inclusive culture where all children feel seen, heard, respected, and have the support and resources they need to flourish; Support the health, safety, nutrition and well-being of the children; Supervise and support children to ensure that they are healthy and safe by following Public Health, First Aid and Emergency procedures;

Mandatory Educational and Experience Requirements:Hold a minimum of a high school diploma, GED or equivalent level of educational attainmentPrior experience supervising and supporting children in a positive and safe manner Condition of Employment for Extended Day B.A.S.S. Ratio Employees Valid Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED OR ready, able and willing to obtain this training as a condition of employment. Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) that is current within 5 years if currently employed with the WRDSB. Satisfactory PVSC that is current within 6 months for new employees.Must complete the Licensed child care staff record requirements, including Region of Waterloo Public Health, Health AssessmentApplications and supporting documentation stating qualifications and experience, and proof of Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED must be included in your portfolio . NOTES : Successful Candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Background Check including the Vulnerable Sector, which must be received in Human Resources prior to the commencement of employment. Educators working in Before and After School Programs are required to complete a request for VSC through your local police service [available online] and submit your original electronic copy to the Licensed Child Care Staff Record Site (LCCSR). Employees are required to have a valid first aid and cpr certificate and or be registered to update their training within the year and to maintain this certification. Employees may be required to work on PD days, Winter break, and March break when the program is operating.
