**After School Program Leader**

**Job Summary**:
The After School Program Leader is responsible for the supervision, coordination, and implementation of the daily activities of Locus Big Kids. In specific, leaders plan, organize, and facilitate after school recreation programs for children ages 4 to 10 years old.
- Documents the attendance of children
- Follows recreational program plan to ensure the physical and emotional wellbeing of children
- Familiar with HIGH FIVE® Principles
- Models the ability to be a caring leader dedicated to ensuring quality play experiences for children that enable them to actively participate while developing friendships and working towards mastery of skills

**Job Specifics**:

- Hours: 3:00pm-6:00pm
- At least two (2) planned/prepared activities must be set up prior to the start of the program.
- Leaders must arrive at their designated school for pick up no less than ten (10) minutes before the final school bell rings. Attendance is to be taken immediately upon collecting the children from the school yard.
- Leaders are expected to prepare and serve a snack upon the children’s arrival after school.
- During after school programming, leaders are expected to meaningfully interact with all children to develop and foster supportive and positive relationships, modelling HIGH FIVE®Principles. Ongoing observation should also be conducted so that activities and experiences are planned based on the children’s changing interests. Senior team members conduct leader observations twice per school year to ensure that HIGH FIVE® Principles are followed. Goal setting is encouraged, and ongoing feedback is provided.
- Leaders are expected to engage with parents and caregivers in a warm and welcoming manner, and should address all concerns with care, knowledge, appreciation for cultural diversity, and inclusivity.

**Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary education preferred or enrolled in one or more of the following programs: Early Childhood Education, Ontario College of Teachers, Child and Youth Care Worker.
- Experience working with children in recreational community settings and/or developing age-appropriate programming.
- Possesses certification in Parks and Recreation Ontario's HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) prior to job start (or willing to obtain). Locus Big Kids is a certified HIGH FIVE® organization so yearly HIGH FIVE® refresher courses are mandatory to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality programming.
- Certified in Standard First Aid - CRP C including infant and child cardiopulmonary resuscitation as recognized by WSIB (or willing to obtain).
- Able to lift/carry equipment (weighing up to 20 kgs).
- Able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
