Position Summary:

Reporting to the Program Supervisor and in consultation with a Speech-Language Pathologist, the early learning Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) is an integral part of the interdisciplinary team by actively participating in the assessment, planning, implementation, and monitoring of interventions for children with speech language needs in early learning/head start programming using Flight, SCERTs, and Safe Management pedagogical frameworks. By adhering to professional guidelines, the SLPA ensures the delivery of the highest quality care and intervention, enabling children to overcome challenges and achieve equal access to a full and successful life. The SLPA's role encompasses a range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: speech and language delays and disorders, communication and fluency disorders, voice and resonance disorders, cognitive-communication disorders, pre-literacy and literacy skills, and hearing loss.

Key Aspects of the Role:

1. Skills and Abilities Surveillance: Collaborating with classroom team, caregivers, and other interdisciplinary team members to determine speech-language needs of identified children.
2. IPP Contribution and Monitoring: Regularly reviewing goals, accommodations, and/or interventions.
3. Planning and Intervention: Aiding in the development of differentiated instructional strategies to support speech-language development.
4. Case Management: Observing and documenting student strengths and achievements regularly.
5. Professional Collaboration: Working with classroom and interdisciplinary team members to develop consistent goals.
6. Professional Growth: Staying current with best evidence-based practices in speech and language pathology.
7. Professional Supervision: Meeting regularly with SLP & Program Supervisor.
8. Health and Safety: Adhering to health and safety guidelines, protocols, and procedures established by the agency.

Qualifications and Experience:

1. Speech Language Pathologist Assistant/Rehabilitation Diploma or related training.
2. A minimum of 1-year experience working with toddlers and preschool children, including those with special needs.
3. Knowledge and working experience of preschool language delays and disorders and intervention strategies.
4. Strong skills in the provision of group work and consultation are required.
5. Sound clinical judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in combination with sound analytical abilities are essential.
6. Experience working with families and external professionals of other disciplines (i.e., education, psychology, social work, etc.).
7. Knowledge of child development and skills in operationalizing treatment interventions including behavior management techniques.

Position Type: Regular Full time 37.5 hrs/week with a 1/2 hour paid lunch break daily.

Salary: $25.35 - $33.26/hour.

Other Information:

1. As the workload and operational requirements shift, it may be required that you change locations, dates, and/or hours of work.
2. A security clearance with vulnerable sector completed is required for all newly hired employees.
3. Child intervention check is required for all newly hired employees.
4. Standard first aid certification required within 30 days of employment.
5. Safe Management training through the employer will be required within one year of employment.
6. Availability to work Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.
