IT IS AN HONOR TO PROVIDE HEALTHCARE SERVICES FOR THOSE WHO HAVE SERVED, AND TO THOSE WHO CONTINUE TO SERVE OUR COUNTRY.
The HCP is responsible for first aid only to cadet civilian instructors and onsite civilians. The provision of service to patients is on a walk-in basis. Responsibilities include conducting patient history and physical assessment, patient screening, performing selected diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, counselling patients on preventative health care, and facilitating access to health services and referrals. The HCP must be available for either eight or twelve-hour shifts as per clinic schedule, including weekday and weekend shifts. No overnight or field duty will be required.
Language of work may be English and/or French depending on geographic location.
Responsibilities:
- Apply policies, procedures, and rules for provision of medical services to on-site Regular Force, Reserve Force, Cadet, and civilian members;
- Assess patients who report to the clinic;
- Administer care and urgent treatment to patients and/or provide information to help them resolve their health issues;
- Refer cases beyond their knowledge and expertise to the Charge/Head Nurse or higher medical authority for assessment;
- Record relevant observation notes, recommendations, and appropriate treatments in the patient’s medical file;
- Provide OTC medication in accordance with their level of responsibility, qualification, and provincial registration or delegated authority;
- Ensure follow-up with patients whose health issues require it and keep the Charge/Head Nurse or higher medical authority informed;
- Contribute to promoting hygiene, safety, and prevention of medical problems among camp members;
- Participate in tasks required for the proper functioning of the clinic;
- Assist physician during clinic hours;
- Review and fill out Cadet Intake Form, collecting cadet's drugs and placing them in a bag with the cadet's identification;
- Hand out cadets' drugs to the responsible officer, explaining the purpose, dosage, side effects, and how to fill the Medication Record sheet;
- Promote cadets' hygiene, disease prevention, and safety;
- Provide medical oversight and review of cadet medical intake forms during camp intakes.
The head/charge nurse is responsible for:
- Assessing patients and determining appropriate levels of care as per clinic SOPs;
- Responding to queries from local health professionals and cadet camp leadership;
- Providing supervision and mentorship to student nurses on official rotation;
- Other associated tasks relevant to this occupational group.
Administrative Functions:
- Answer phone calls and emails related to clinic operations and patient well-being;
- Conduct follow-up communications with other health care practitioners, parents, or appropriate cadet/medical authority;
- Faxing, photocopying, and completing various clinical and administrative forms;
- Complete clinic stock taking and replenish supplies accordingly;
- Manage medication audits for cadet camp companies;
- Ensure overall clinic function to ensure patient care when working as the charge/head nurse;
- Prepare clinic reports, statistics, and other assigned reports;
- Adhere to Bayshore Policies and Procedures;
- Participate in quality activities and continuous improvement initiatives;
- Participate in proactive Health & Safety activities and notify Supervisor of risks or concerns;
- Maintain confidentiality of client and corporate information.
