Assistant Professor, Electrochemistry for Energy Conversion/Storage, Faculty of Science

The Faculty of Science at the University of Calgary is inviting applications for a full-time position in the Department of Chemistry, specializing in Physical Electrochemistry pertaining to Energy Conversion/Storage options. The successful candidate will be appointed as an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in the Department of Chemistry, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.
Successful candidates must hold a Ph.D. in chemistry or a related area that specialized in physical electrochemistry; be an excellent emerging researcher in areas such as electrocatalysis, electrochemistry of surfaces, electrochemistry as it pertains to energy conversion/storage options, advanced electrochemical materials, and state-of-the-art surface and materials characterization techniques. The candidate is expected to have a proven record of research excellence commensurate with the applicant’s stage of career development; and have a demonstrated record or potential to establish an outstanding, externally funded research program. Interdisciplinary experience working with teams, including with industry partners, will also be an asset.
Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank requires a strong publication record demonstrating excellence in physical electrochemistry AND/OR a strong record in alternative, non-traditional outputs such as (but not limited to): community outreach (popular press, interviews, public or online seminars, etc.), resource development (online databases, protocols, etc.), and scientific service related to electrochemistry. Candidates should also demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning and the use of contemporary approaches to teaching. Candidates must demonstrate a clear dedication to upholding the values of equity, diversity, and inclusion pertaining to service, teaching, and scholarly, research or creative activities.
