PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Archdiocese has developed an emerging Vision for renewal that will guide the Archdiocese, parishes, priests, lay leaders, and ministries to fully live the Mission of the Church. The Director of Mission and Pastoral Services reports directly to the Archbishop and works closely with the Archbishop, the Episcopal Vicars, and other members of the senior executive team in ensuring that the Vision as it relates to parishes is enabled and implemented. This includes:
- Developing and stewarding a change program that enables the Vision to be implemented through and by others.
- Fostering and maintaining partnerships and alliances with archdiocesan leaders and staff, priests, laity, ministry leaders and others to enable the Vision to be implemented through parishes and ministries.
- Designing, delivering, and managing archdiocesan programs that support, equip, and enable parishes, priests, and lay leaders to journey towards the Vision.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
- Translates the Archdiocese's multi-year Vision into a program of change that will enable the implementation of the Vision.
- Develops, leads, and oversees programs and services that equip priests, parishes, laity, ministry leaders and other key stakeholders to implement the Vision.
- Works closely with communications and the Archbishop to champion and communicate the Vision.
- Works closely with the CAO to align funding and resources to enable the implementation of the Vision.
- Works with and accompanies parishes as they pursue the Vision.
- Works closely and collaboratively with the Archbishop, the Episcopal Vicars, and other members of the executive team to help establish diocesan priorities and objectives in the Mission and Pastoral realms and supervise the cohesive and timely delivery of these objectives.
- Stays up to date on developments within the Church, especially those from the national and international Church that could impact the diocese.
- Advises senior diocesan leaders of developments related to missional and pastoral services to identify potential opportunities for the diocese and mitigate risks associated with achieving the Mission and Vision of the diocese.
- Proposes and administers department and programming budget within established procedures, including accurate financial reporting.
- Works with other diocesan staff to hire and support the professional development and retain competent personnel as the department re-organizes around missional and pastoral priorities.
- In collaboration with the Episcopal Vicars, manages, supervises, evaluates, coordinate, and provides work direction to staff within the Department as they implement short- and medium-term priorities and objectives.
- Fosters a learning culture by interacting with pastors and faith leaders to better understand opportunities and challenges and encouraging staff to do the same.
- Ensures staff respond accurately to related inquiries in a manner that supports the overall strategic direction and vision for the diocese yet is sensitive to the pastoral setting of the inquirer.
- With approval, participates in professional associations and conferences, especially those related to parish renewal, missionary strategies, and ministry.
- At times, helps formulate diocesan policies and best practices that can be utilized by parishes and work with parishes to implement them for the good of all the faithful in the diocese.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS
- Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing, and must know, profess and act consistently in accordance with the doctrinal and moral teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Post-secondary academic preparation that brings knowledge and insights to support fulfilling the responsibilities of the role.
- Significant relevant experience in leading program and culture change initiatives in complex and/or broadly accountable organization contexts.
- Lived experience of parish ministry and pastoral programs.
- Excellent relationship building and influence skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual French and English.
- Strong management capability including managing people, budgets, and programs/services.
- Abilities to effectively coach, teach, guide, affirm, and challenge others in the department.
- Possesses a high degree of flexibility in order to achieve objectives and meet demands.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
- Listening skills and discernment; sensitivity to a bilingual and multicultural church; comfort with a diversity of perspectives and ability to bring shared meaning.
- Recent Enhanced Police Information Check processed by the archdiocese.
- Possesses a valid driver's license and must have access to a reliable vehicle.
WORK CONDITIONS AND LOCATION
- 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
- Work in an office environment.
- Travel to parishes throughout the archdiocese will be required.
