The Opportunity

The Institute is seeking a Junior Advancement Officer to support the mission of the Institute and the goals of the Research Advancement team. Reporting to the Senior Development Officer, the successful candidate will focus on developing, funding, and delivering policy-oriented events and meetings that enhance the Institute’s impact. The role will also involve providing research assistance to projects across the Institute’s policy areas, ensuring effective coordination and delivery.

You will

Planning and Funding of Conferences & Working Groups

- Support planning, funding, and delivery of conferences and working groups.

- Identify project scope and priorities with the Research team.

- Prospect and secure donors, sponsors, and grant opportunities.

- Coordinate with the Development team to align donor engagement.

- Prepare proposals, correspondence, and outcome materials.

- Identify and engage speakers and thought leaders.

- Develop outreach lists, invitations, and event communications.

- Collaborate with Communications on event promotion and materials.

- Draft agendas, speaking notes, and manage event follow-up.

Research & Policy Support

- Provide research, fact-finding, and writing support for policy initiatives.

- Contribute surge capacity to key funded projects across policy areas.

Development Research, Coordination and Reporting

- Identify and research prospective supporters and funding sources.

- Assist in drafting and editing funding proposals.

- Maintain activity tracking systems, reports, and confidential files.

- Support financial processes including invoicing and contract management.

- Stay informed on current policy issues and identify relevant event content.

The Candidate

Must-haves

- University degree

- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and collaborative problem-solver.

- Knowledge and understanding of important Canadian public policy issues and related data and research sources, particularly related to law and economics

- Experience in program development or sales

- Experience with CRM or task-management software

- Business development or sales experience in-person or remotely

- Ability to prospect to identify potential speakers/sponsors based on industry needs is critical

- Business sense

- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build productive relationships with speakers and sponsors

- Ability to manage competing priorities and set realistic timeframes to ensure timely project completion
