Eligibility: Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, must have a full‑stage class 5 Manitoba Driver's License, must be able to travel by ground and air within Manitoba (including overnight stays), must be able to work overtime as required, and must be able to complete the Certificate in Real Property Assessment within 3 years (employer support available).

The Department of Municipal and Northern Relations seeks highly motivated individuals to fill Assessment Officer positions located in Brandon, Minnedosa, Portage la Prairie, and Souris, Manitoba. This career offers a combination of outdoor work, travel to Manitoba communities, and in‑office duties.

Assessment Officers receive on‑the‑job training and financial assistance to complete the required education. Qualifications:

- High school diploma or GED; post‑secondary education in business administration, agriculture, finance, valuation, appraisal, construction, or related field preferred.

- Professional experience in agribusiness, agronomy, building construction, mortgage lending, property assessment administration, building inspection, real estate, or real estate appraisal.

- Experience working with the public in complex and sensitive situations with diplomacy and tact.

- Strong mathematical, analytical, problem‑solving, verbal and written communication skills.

- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills in a fast‑paced environment.

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) or equivalent software.

- Knowledge of legislation, policies, and procedures related to property assessment and experience preparing and presenting evidence at assessment appeal hearings.

Responsibilities:

- Inspect residential, farm, and commercial properties.

- Record land and building characteristics for valuation, classification, and taxation liability.

- Update property and ownership characteristics using computer software and determine value, class, and liability.

- Attend boards of revision and defend assessments.

- Respond to assessment enquiries from the public and municipal government councils; prepare and present defenses of assessments at Boards of Revision and Municipal Board hearings.
