Senior Electrical Hardware Designer

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)
Position: Senior Electrical Hardware Designer
The successful candidate will assist in the hardware electrical design of new or revised products, equipment, and installations, utilizing processes based on established engineering principles to meet customer requirements.
You will be involved with designs of moderate complexity.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist in the design of new or revised products, equipment, and installations, utilizing processes based on established engineering principles to meet customer and Railway requirements.
2. Work harmoniously in a team environment while maintaining a high degree of professionalism.
3. Develop junior team members by providing assistance as required.
4. Effectively present pros and cons for various courses of action.
5. Keep track of progress on all assigned tasks.
6. Verify that all assigned work has been completed accurately.
7. Occasional travel may be required to customer sites, up to three times per year.
Required Skills and Experience:
1. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of diplomas and work experience.
2. Minimum of 6 years' experience in the electrical engineering industry: Cabling; Grounding techniques and Surge Protection.
3. Electrical Engineering Principles: Power circuits design; Electronic circuits including Microprocessors and Telecommunications circuits.
4. Engineering tools: CAD system (AutoCAD); Multi-meter; Oscilloscope and Protocol Analyzers.
5. Professional verbal skills for clear communication without ambiguity.
6. Effective writing skills to prepare documents and work packages in a clear and concise format.
7. Ability to follow directions and work instructions, using good judgement in the performance of assigned work.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
1. Over 10 years of experience in the Railway Signalling industry.
2. Experience formulating or contributing to the development of new designs.
3. Devising and running tests to verify functionality, and identifying and solving problems.
4. Experience reviewing applicable specifications, standards, rules, etc., and ensuring appropriate actions have been taken.
5. Implementing designs using good design practice and applicable standards and guidelines.
6. Proficiency with the skills and current technology of the discipline.
7. Making efficient re-use of existing designs.
8. Professional Engineer's License (P.Eng.).
