The Position: As a Software Product Support Technician within our Customer Service & Support organization, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of how we execute our customer support. Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams of engineers and technicians, your expertise will ensure the success and customer acceptance of new sophisticated control systems that optimize vehicle performance, enhance safety, and ensure operational efficiency. This role offers an exciting opportunity to apply your technical skills and creativity to solve complex challenges in a fast-paced and rewarding environment.

Lead by a customer support manager with more than five years of hands-on experience at MacLean, the Product Support Team is one of four verticals in the Customer Service & Support department, shaping the MacLean Way of providing ongoing customer support and satisfaction. You will be responsible for supporting new feature development like smart operator assists, collision avoidance integration (CAS Level 9), robot controlled operation, and CAN-based "Fly-by-Wire" control systems and their integrated technology (controllers, PLCs, HMIs, I/O modules). The successful candidate will be at the forefront of supporting rapidly growing technology implementation onto our fleet of equipment and directly validating innovative solutions for real-world challenges in underground mining.

Responsibilities and Duties:

- Understand and utilize low variability PLC languages such as CODESYS and Danfoss for programming mobile equipment.
- Apply software/hardware troubleshooting best practices to optimize control systems validation and support.
- Understand CAN protocols, including CANOpen and J1939, for effective communication within vehicle systems.
- Understand vehicle sensor instrumentation, architecture, and topography.
- Demonstrate proficiency with various ECUs, including I/O modules, controllers, and displays.
- Demonstrate expertise in both electric vehicle (EV) drivetrain components and diesel engine control systems.
- Understand how to interpret AutoCAD and Solidworks technical drawings and designs as well as higher-level diagramming tools for control system architecture and network layouts.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, leadership abilities, and problem-solving capabilities. They will demonstrate organizational skills, discipline, an aptitude for proactive learning, and a positive attitude. Additionally, they should meet the following qualifications:

- At least 5 years of engineering development experience in mechatronics, electrical engineering, software development, control systems, or related fields.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with the job responsibilities and duties described above.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in other languages is an asset.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, computer science, or a related field is an asset.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) license or similar certification is an asset.

First Year Goals:

- Learn the current and envisioned future state of MacLean Engineering's ~15 core underground mining product line's control systems.
- Support the design of existing relay-based, controller-based, PLC-based control systems currently being utilized in our fleet of product lines.
- Support the design and implementation of the new robotic/CAN-based Abi Bolter.
- Support the design and implementation of new CAN bus control product "MacLean Operating System (MOS)" with new top-level architecture designs for 2 vehicle application types (I.e. Rockbreaker).
- Create/support control system-based training modules or instructor-led classes.
