Cultural Safety, Diversity, and Inclusion Officer

The Cultural Safety, Diversity, and Inclusion Officer (The Officer) leads, develops and coordinates initiatives that improve and promote cultural safety, diversity, equity and inclusion at WSCC, in all Northern workplaces under our jurisdiction and in the programs and services provided by the WSCC to our stakeholders. The Officer as a subject matter expert will ensure:
- WSCC delivers programs and services that are culturally safe, relevant and representative, and acknowledges the history, culture, values, knowledge and ways of being of the Indigenous people of the Northwest Territories (NT) and Nunavut (NU).
- WSCC is committed to gaining knowledge of, recognizing and respecting diversity and equity and inclusion, in our programs, services and organization in our jurisdictions.
- The WSCC is an inclusive workplace culture that is culturally safe, respectful, equitable and safe for all employees to feel supported and encouraged to contribute their unique perspectives to the work that we do.
Here are a few ways you will make a difference:
- Leading initiatives that help build cultural safety, diversity, equity and inclusion into all Northern workspaces under the WSCC jurisdiction.
- Supporting all WSCC units in operationalizing cultural safety, diversity, equity and inclusion in programs and services for the benefit of external stakeholders.
- Supporting Human Resources in the development and implementation of programs and initiatives to ensure that the WSCC is a culturally safe, equitable and inclusive workplace.
- Performing other duties as assigned to achieve strategic goals and objectives related to cultural safety, diversity, equity and inclusion.
What you bring to the role:
- Completion of a diploma in Indigenous Studies or Social Sciences related discipline (such as Sociology, Political Science, Social Work, Community Development, etc.), with 5 years’ experience and training developing and delivering programs, and/or working with Indigenous and intercultural organizations and diversity and inclusion focused organizations, or with diverse communities.
- Preference will be given to Indigenous Aboriginal candidates.

Indigenous Employment Policy: Candidates must clearly state their eligibility in order to receive priority consideration under the Indigenous Employment Policy.
Equivalencies: May be considered based on a one-year of directly related experience equivalent to one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience. However, combinations of education and experience must often be considered on a case-by-case basis.
