Subjects
Winston Churchill High School is seeking a Social Studies and English Language Arts teacher to join their team The successful candidate will be responsible to teach Social Studies 10-2 and English 10-2, with the possibility of additional courses being added. They will have a proven commitment to cultivating a classroom and school environment that actively challenges systemic inequities while championing equity, inclusion, and respect for all learners. The successful candidate will be an eager and enthusiastic educator who strives to promote Churchills motto of Work Hard, Be Kind and will:
- Have an Educational background in Social Studies and English Language Arts:
- Cultivate an inclusive and welcoming classroom that respects diverse worldviews and is committed to building an anti-racist and anti-oppressive learning community through the study of literature, history, and society.
- Have a strong commitment and demonstrated ability to build positive, authentic relationships with students, families, and colleagues, fostering a supportive and collaborative learning environment;
- Have a passion for integrating Indigenous Ways of Knowing, oral traditions, and diverse narratives into Social Studies and English curriculum, helping students connect texts and historical concepts to lived experiences and contemporary issues;
- Be a dynamic and engaging educator who encourages critical thinking, discussion, creativity, and inquiry through reading, writing, speaking, and analysis of a wide range of texts and historical sources.
- Have experience designing student-centered lessons that promote voice, choice, and leadership, including inquiry-based projects, discussions, presentations, and creative responses to learning.
- The ability to incorporate project-based learning and technology (such as multimedia presentations, digital research tools, and creative platforms) to enhance student engagement, literacy skills, and understanding of social and historical contexts.
Requirements
- Applicants must possess or be eligible to obtain an Alberta Teaching Certificate;
Conditions of Employment
In order to ensure and maintain a safe and secure working and learning environment, applicants new to Lethbridge School Division who are offered employment must provide:
- A police information check; including Vulnerable Sector Check from Police Services or an RCMP detachment that does not have any charges or convictions.
- A satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
- Proof of photo identification, may be a valid driver’s licence, provincial identification card as issued by a licensed government registry office, valid passport or Nexus card. If one cannot be provided, a new card must be obtained and proof of application provided within three days of hire.
- Documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee’s legal name. If valid Social Insurance documentation in the current legal name can not be provided, the successful candidate will be required to obtain a new one within three days of hire.
