Clinical Educator

Person-and family-centered care (PFCC) is an approach to care that recognizes the importance of family in a patient's life and the importance of their active involvement in planning and making decisions on health care, services and treatment, and health system reform. This approach to care provides respectful, compassionate, culturally safe, and responsive care that meets the needs, values, beliefs, and preferences of the patient, their family, and others identified as significant to their life from diverse backgrounds and settings.
The Clinical Educator
Under the direction of the Regional Director, the Clinical Educator is responsible for providing education on various policies, processes, and procedures related to the provision of safe clinical care to the staff within Integrated Care Solutions. The Clinical Educator works closely with internal business partners such as Clinical Quality, Specialty Rx, as well as external organizations and associations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assesses, plans, develops, implements, and evaluates comprehensive education programs to meet the orientation and ongoing competency needs and professional development needs of registered staff.
2. Ensures all programs meet Bayshore's and regulatory expectations and standards. Adheres to national education practice standards and stays abreast of and incorporates current research into nursing education practice.
3. Programs are based on adult learning principles, organizational and learning theory consistent with Bayshore's philosophy and direction.
4. Prepares and maintains support materials (e.g. user guides, educator guides) for new and existing policies, procedures, and processes.
5. Partners with the clinical quality team to ensure policies and procedures are followed.
6. Develops and conducts training sessions as required.
7. Creates, updates, and communicates training schedules to ICS staff.
8. Analyzes feedback from ICS staff and provides input to assist in the improvement of training methodologies and initiatives for existing and new clinical program implementations.
9. Participates in ongoing internal and/or external continuing education activities.
10. Learns new applications in order to update training materials and provide training on newly acquired applications.
11. Participates in project implementations and/or committees to provide a training perspective as required.
12. Adheres to Bayshore Policies and Procedures.
13. Participates in quality activities and continuous improvement initiatives in keeping with Bayshore's Quality Management System.
14. Participates in proactive Health & Safety activities while performing all duties. Is responsible to notify immediate Supervisor of any Health & Safety risks or concerns.
15. Maintains confidentiality of client and corporate information and discusses same only with appropriate Bayshore personnel.
16. Completes other tasks as requested.
Job Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
1. BScN from an accredited school required.
2. Must possess current valid license as a registered nurse.
3. Degree or certificate in Adult Education preferred.
4. Wound care and ostomy, central venous access, palliative, advance dementia care certificate or courses preferred.
Experience
Experience as a RN with 3-5 years of working in home care and/or acute care settings. Excellent documentation skills and knowledge of CNO standards and RNAO best practices. Previous experience assessing patients as well as training and mentoring staff. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office products, knowledge of various documentation systems. Knowledge of other applications is an asset, such as eLearning software. Must have access to own vehicle and willingness to travel to various work sites within Ontario.
Other Skills and Abilities
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to prioritize demands. Experience working with Microsoft Windows, Office, and Web Conferencing Software. A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience using a clinical documentation system. Strong organization as well as verbal and written communication skills. Excellent customer service skills and ability to work collaboratively with team members from various disciplines.
