Definition of Work:

This is an advanced professional level position involving a high degree of responsibility, autonomy, and independence in identifying and providing specialized assessment, individual service planning, and critical intervention services within the Special Child Welfare Allowance and Autism Services Program. Within policy parameters, the Social Worker accepts, screens, and actions referrals in relation to children and youth who require supportive services, completes comprehensive client assessments, and assists the client through service planning based on individual and family needs and available resources. Work involves carrying an active caseload of clients in receipt of an array of services and working directly with clients, families, and care providers, while continually assessing and monitoring the needs of the client.

Adhering to policy for the Special Child Welfare Allowance and Autism Home Therapy programs, the Social Worker accepts all referrals to these programs when necessary. The incumbent will adhere to standards for client services in accordance with the Canadian Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics, the standards of Practice in Social Work, and the Social Workers Act of Newfoundland and Labrador. The successful candidate will be committed to partnering with all team members to improve worker and client/patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements.

Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor Degree in Social Work.
2. Current registration with NLCSW.
3. 2 years' experience within the last 5 years working in the Community Supports Program.
4. Familiarity with assessment tools including the Long Term Care and Community Support Program Adult Needs Assessment and the RAI-hc Assessment.
5. Considerable knowledge of the needs, resources, and services available to children and youth with a disability and Autism.
6. Demonstrated ability in comprehensive assessment, interviewing and crisis intervention techniques, as well as social work programming and delivery methods.
7. Established analytical capability and oral/written communication skills.
8. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
9. Daily use of a private vehicle for employment.
10. Consistent demonstration of NL Health Service's core values; Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence (I CARE).
11. A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
12. A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local Police Authority is required.
