At Cronos Group, we hire talented people who thrive on solving difficult problems and give them the opportunity to hone new skills and approaches. If you want to play a part in shaping an innovative industry and help build a historically significant company, we want to meet you.

If you are passionate about plant improvement, have excellent attention to detail, and thrive in a collaborative team environment, then this is the job for you As the Breeding Manager, you will support the breeding program by coordinating breeding activities, maintaining accurate records of crosses and progeny, and monitoring plant performance in greenhouse and field environments. You will assist with data collection, manage sample logistics, and ensure that breeding materials are tracked and inventoried correctly in the ERP system.

You will work closely with the breeding and R&D teams, helping to advance new cultivars through the pipeline and ensuring smooth communication across program activities. You will also participate in R&D meetings and are expected to deliver clear progress updates and contribute to problem-solving discussions.

The ideal candidate is energetic, detail-oriented, collaborative, and forward-thinking — motivated to help build a breeding program that delivers innovative and resilient cultivars.

This position is based out of Stayner, Ontario.

What you’ll be doing:

- Planning and executing breeding program activities, including crossing, population advancement, and trial setup
- Collect, organize, and analyze phenotypic, chemotypic, and agronomic data from greenhouse and field evaluations
- Maintain accurate and compliant records of breeding materials, crosses, and trial results in the ERP system
- Monitor plant performance and health, supporting selection decisions based on data-driven criteria
- Coordinate sampling and logistics for genotyping and other R&D analyses
- Actively participate in breeding and R&D discussions and meetings, contributing observations and insights
- Prepare technical reports, progress updates, and summaries of trial outcomes
- Track and evaluate effectiveness of breeding strategies, helping determine next steps in the program
- Present findings, program updates, and recommendations to peers and stakeholders
- Lead a team of Technicians, providing day-to-day direction, coaching, mentoring and performance oversight
- Other duties as required to support the organization and advancement of the breeding pipeline

You’ll need to have:

- B.Sc. degree or higher in Plant Science, Agronomy, Plant Breeding, Horticulture, or related field; equivalent experience in plant R&D or breeding programs will be considered
- Experience in plant breeding, crop improvement, genetics, or applied agricultural R&D is an asset
- Strong attention to detail with ability to manage and interpret large sets of data
- 5+ years’ experience in plant breeding and 7-10 years of overall experience
- 3+ years’ experience in managing people and coordinating schedules and tasks to meet timelines required
- Excellent organizational skills to track materials, activities, and results across multiple breeding cycles
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; experience with statistical software or ERP systems is an advantage
- Ability to work in greenhouse, field, and controlled-environment settings, sometimes under variable conditions

We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment, and we welcome and encourage applications from people with disabilities and people with diverse backgrounds, identities, and cultures. For candidates with disabilities, accommodations are available upon request in all phases of the selection process.
