Position Overview
The Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia is seeking a staff attorney to work in the Office of the Legislative Counsel. A background or interest in Health and Social Affairs and Education is desirable.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of a staff attorney include:
1. Drafting legislation
2. Conducting legal research
3. Providing legal advice to Members of Congress
4. Working with the Executive Branch of the FSM National Government on legislative matters
The work is diverse, ranging from budget legislation to oversight matters and substantive national policy on a wide range of issues.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates must have:
1. A J.D. from an accredited law school
2. Licensure to practice law in any jurisdiction
3. Excellent English language skills
Experience in government or a developing country is preferred.
Compensation
Compensation includes a base salary between $61,235 and $68,138 based on experience, plus housing allowance and relocation expenses. The successful candidate will be expected to sign a two-year contract and must have the ability to adapt to living and working in both an unfamiliar cultural and social environment.
