Maintenance Worker I

This position is an entry level position and part of the Facilities Maintenance & Engineering team at Sheldon M. Chumir Heath Center in downtown Calgary. The successful applicant for this position will be primarily working outdoors and be responsible for maintaining the Sheldon M. Chumir Heath Center's exterior appearance. As a Maintenance Worker I, you may perform routine tasks related to grounds keeping and facility maintenance. Working independently and/or as part of team, you may maintain lawns, flowerbeds, trees and shrubs, collect and dispose garbage, remove snow and ice, spread salt and sand, clean mechanical rooms and shop areas, and assist tradespeople and other maintenance staff as needed. Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Possession of a valid driver's licence. Must have a minimum of 1 - 3 years' experience performing exterior maintenance tasks in a commercial property or hospital setting. Must be capable of operating a pressure washer. Must be able to squeegee windows. Must be able to perform minor painting duties. Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to work around transient / homeless population. Must have basic computer skills using a Windows operating system. Must be able to perform manual work including general cleaning of shops and mechanical areas and furniture and equipment relocation. Must be able to work in hot and cold work outdoor environments for entire shift. Must be physically fit and be able to regularly lift 20kg to waist height daily. Must be able to stand and walk for long periods. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Must have completed of Grade 12 or equivalent level of education. As required.
