Methods Analyst II - Senior GIS Analyst

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) requires a highly organized and dedicated GIS Analyst to further develop and apply advanced spatial analytics, supporting the EPS in innovating and enhancing police service delivery. You will conduct complex geospatial analyses, create analytical tools and models, and collaborate with stakeholders to meet business requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Applying research and theory through the creation of analytical tools and processes to lead data-driven decisions within the organization.
- Create and implement statistical, geospatial, and business intelligence solutions that guide data-driven decision-making throughout the EPS.
- Perform spatial and statistical analysis on crime data to identify trends, forecast hotspots, and measure operational effectiveness, to support operational, strategic, and annual policing plans.
- Develop, implement, and train users on advanced GIS applications and reporting solutions.
- Research spatial and statistical modeling related to intelligence-led policing and public safety.
- Consult and communicate with internal and external stakeholders to document analytical business requirements, ensuring analytical products meet business needs, and develop corporate business intelligence products and solutions.
- Collect data, develop methods and analyses, ad hoc queries, and reports that meet business requirements.
- Test and validate spatial and non-spatial data and data models, spatial applications, and statistical reports to ensure quality assurance processes are complete and documented.
- Carry out additional tasks as needed to support analytical objectives within the Business Analytics, Intelligence & Reporting Section.
Qualifications:
- University degree in statistics, mathematics, geography, GIS/spatial analysis, management sciences or related degree.
- A minimum of four (4) years directly related working experience in spatial analysis, statistics, or equivalent roles.
- Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Esri Enterprise, Excel, Python, and/or SQL.
- Proficient in data collection, database mining, and geospatial analyses.
- Experience with FME and Business Intelligence tools (e.g., Microsoft Power BI, Esri Insights, Tableau) is an asset.
- Experience applying research methodologies and theory into practice.
- Experience in project management methods and software would be an asset.
- Knowledge of police data and data models would be an asset.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in completing assigned tasks.
- Ability to communicate clearly at the executive level.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, oral, and written communication skills.

- As part of your pre-hire screening, you will be required to complete an Enhanced Security Clearance. Should you accept employment with the Edmonton Police Service you acknowledge and agree to participate in future Enhanced Security Re-Clearances at scheduled intervals or in any other circumstances, exigent or otherwise, as required by Human Resources Division.
Hours of Work:
33.75 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.
Salary Range:
21M, Grade 030: $48.767 - $61.623 (Hourly), $3,291.80 - $4,159.60 (Biweekly), $85,915.26 - $108,564.32 (Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
