Lead Instrumentation and Controls Engineer

The Lead Instrumentation and Controls Engineer will lead a discipline engineering team in the design of different aspects of oil and gas projects from inception to completion. The Lead Instrumentation and Controls Engineer will provide leadership and mentorship to the project/program discipline engineering team, acting as a focal point for expertise and direction on engineering solutions, and actively facilitating change management.
This position requires flexibility in meeting multiple job demands and the requirement to assist other team members on-site as needed. The ideal candidate will have relevant work experience in planning, allocating, and reviewing work programs to ensure alignment with the demand of the Project/Program Manager, combined with good interpersonal/teamwork, organizational, and communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Most importantly, they would need to have good change management skills and the ability to handle operational pressures calmly.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10+ years of progressive experience in facilities engineering and design in the energy industry; (Preferred: 12+ years of experience as a fully qualified engineer, with five years' experience in the energy industry)
- Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in engineering or applied science
- Ability to work and collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and designers including process, mechanical, civil, structural & architectural, electrical, instrumentation & controls and piping
- Experience leading mid-sized Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) teams to successfully execute projects
- P.Eng. registration with APEGA
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong organizational skills, technical competence and attention to detail
- Self-motivated and efficient with time management
- Strong working knowledge and understanding of applicable codes and industry standards
- Ability to meet safety requirements to attend site visits
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Planning, allocating and reviewing work programs, including updating ForecastWeb on a weekly basis.
- Preparing weekly progress reports for each project.
- Updating project schedules weekly, ensuring tasks are listed correctly.
- Establishing scopes of work, man-hour estimates, schedules, and priorities for projects or proposals.
- Supervising an engineering team involved in the conception, planning, and development of engineering design, projects, processes, proposals, and estimates.
- Providing leadership and mentorship to the project/program discipline engineering team.
- Guiding discipline teams on project work through to completion in accordance with the schedule and budget.
- Attending status meetings with clients, project management, and suppliers.
- Coordinating activities with other departments and clients.
- Maintaining current knowledge of industry and regulatory standards.
- Reviewing vendor or subcontractor quotations, drawings, and specifications for technical adequacy and conformance with project requirements.
- Ensuring adherence to the company Quality Management System (QMS).
- Ensuring design is in accordance with applicable codes and requirements.
- Supporting development, implementation, and maintenance of discipline design standards, checklists, and procedures.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
