Wheelchair Rugby Canada – Audit & Finance Committee Overview

Wheelchair Rugby Canada is seeking members to join our Audit & Finance Committee. This volunteer committee plays a vital role in supporting the Board of Directors by overseeing the organization’s financial health, accountability, and risk management.

What the Committee Does

- Has strong internal accounting controls and sound financial practices.

- Produces accurate and transparent financial statements and reports.

- Complies with legal, regulatory, and reporting requirements.

- Identifies and manages organizational risks.

- Works effectively with independent auditors to review financial processes and reporting.

Member Responsibilities

- Prepare for and actively participate in committee meetings (usually held virtually, several times a year).

- Review financial statements, audit findings, and related documents.

- Ask questions, contribute to open discussions, and provide oversight in the best interests of the organization.

- Pursue ongoing learning opportunities to strengthen their knowledge of financial and governance matters.

Skills & Experience

We welcome individuals with experience in accounting, finance, audit, risk management, or related areas. Previous board or committee experience is helpful but not required.

Opportunities for Growth

Serving on the Audit & Finance Committee provides valuable experience in nonprofit governance and financial oversight. Members who are interested may also have opportunities to advance to Board of Directors roles in the future.

Rugby en fauteuil roulant Canada recherche des membres pour rejoindre son comité de vérification et des finances. Ce comité bénévole joue un rôle essentiel dans le soutien au conseil d'administration en supervisant la santé financière, la responsabilité et la gestion des risques de l'organisation.

Rôle du comité

- dispose de contrôles comptables internes rigoureux et de pratiques financières saines;

- produise des états financiers et des rapports précis et transparents;

- se conforme aux exigences légales, réglementaires et en matière de rapport;

- identifie et gère les risques organisationnels;

- collabore efficacement avec des vérificateurs indépendants pour examiner les processus financiers et les rapports financiers.

Responsabilités des membres

- se préparer et participer activement aux réunions du comité (qui se tiennent généralement en ligne, plusieurs fois par an);

- examiner les états financiers, les conclusions des vérifications et les documents connexes;

- poser des questions, contribuer aux discussions ouvertes et assurer une surveillance dans le meilleur intérêt de l'organisation;

- rechercher des opportunités d'apprentissage continu afin de renforcer leurs connaissances en matière financière et de gouvernance.

Compétences et expérience

Nous recherchons des personnes ayant de l'expérience dans les domaines de la comptabilité, la finance, la vérification, la gestion des risques ou dans des domaines connexes. Une expérience préalable au sein d'un conseil d'administration ou d'un comité est un atout, mais n'est pas obligatoire.

Possibilités d'évolution

Siéger au comité de vérification et des finances permet d'acquérir une expérience précieuse en matière de gouvernance et de supervision financière dans le secteur à but non lucratif. Les membres intéressés peuvent également avoir la possibilité d'accéder à des fonctions au sein du conseil d'administration à l'avenir.
