Position: Research Lab Technician 1 – Microbiology / Infectious Diseases

Location: St. Joseph's Hospital, London, ON.

Job Type: Temporary Full Time (approximately until December 31, 2028, with potential renewal). Salary Range: $26.01 - $32.51 per hour.

Reporting to Dr. Michael Silverman.

Responsibilities

- Assist the Department of Infectious Diseases with investigator-initiated sponsored clinical trials.

- Recruit and screen study participants; document processes and procedures.

- Manufacture capsules and perform quality control using standardized laboratory techniques.

- Maintain laboratory records, manage purchases, and oversee lab stocks and equipment.

- Conduct routine quality analysis, literature searches, and assist with preparing documents.

- Provide administrative support and other duties as required by the research team.

Required Certifications and Training

- Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), ICH, GCP.

- WHMS training.

- Shipping of Dangerous Goods training (TDG/IATA).

Essential Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory technology, microbiology, or biochemistry.

- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and planning skills in a high-pressure environment.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, capable of communicating general and scientific information at all levels.

- Good judgement, focus, attention to detail, initiative, tact, and a professional attitude.

- Adaptable, flexible, resourceful, with ability to multitask and meet deadlines.

- Laboratory skills in microbiology, biochemistry, or molecular biology.

Preferred Qualifications

- Master’s degree in a health-related field or equivalent.

- Laboratory experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.

- Training in ICH/GCP and GMP guidelines.

- Experience with regulatory document preparation.

- Phlebotomy experience.

- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team.

Immunization Requirements

- Vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, hepatitis B, COVID-19, and influenza.

- Documentation of tuberculosis skin testing.
