We are seeking a senior backend software engineer with experience building scalable and robust systems to join our team. As part of a cross‑functional team of exceptional engineers and product managers, you will develop new features and provide best‑in‑class support to help our partners scale their businesses.

Tech stack

- Scala backend systems with GCP services: GKE, Pub/Sub, BigQuery, Spanner

- Containerized microservices architecture with over 200 services running primarily in Google Cloud Kubernetes

- Data‑driven with tools like Amplitude, BigQuery, and Datadog

What would your day‑to‑day look like

- Design, build and review code for our fraud and abuse backend platform

- Iterate on features using Scala (no prior experience required) and technologies within GCP

- Ship your first code in days, iterating on features in an agile manner

- Operate autonomously but work closely with engineers and PMs to ensure high alignment

- Collaborate cross‑functionally with the product team and other Hopper teams

- We operate with few meetings and emphasize strong alignment and asynchronous decision making

An ideal candidate has

- 4+ years of experience building scalable backend systems

- A strong understanding of distributed systems and how architectural decisions affect performance and maintainability

- The ability to work with minimal guidance, be proactive and to handle uncertainty, ambiguity and the challenge of quickly evolving goals

- Excelled in cross‑functional teams, working fluidly with Product Managers, Data Scientists, Frontend Engineers, and other highly skilled specialists

- Prior experience in the payments and fraud space a plus
