This position's primary purpose is to provide oversight and direction for Anesthesia curriculum at the Introduction to Clinical Medicine, Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics (CMT) I and II Committees and at the Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) Curriculum Committee with view of all four years.

Reporting

The UME Curriculum Lead, Anesthesia, reports to the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education. Collegial and collaborative supervision, leadership and guidance, including delegation of tasks and contribution to performance review, will be by the Assistant Dean, Clinical Education, and the Anesthesia Section Chair.

Responsibilities

The UME Curriculum Lead, Anesthesia, works directly with the Chairs of Introduction to Clinical Medicine, Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics I and II and the Anesthesia Section Chair on the following:

- Provide overall direction on Anesthesia curriculum content and delivery throughout the MD program at the UME Curriculum Committee to ensure integration across the four years.
- Work closely with the Anesthesia Section Chair to help bridge issues across the Anesthesia continuum of medical education at NOSM University (NOSM U). This includes participation in Anesthesia Section meetings and communications providing updates and opportunities to gather input from members on UME Anesthesia curriculum content and delivery to support all functions of this role.
- Represent NOSM U UME Anesthesia at relevant local and national undergraduate education tables.
- As required by the CMT Chair, participate in overseeing Anesthesia curriculum content and academics and any associated assessment components in the clerkship years.
- Annually, or as required by the Chairs of CMT I and II or ICM, provide input on:
- The Phase 3 Anesthesia clerkship objectives, academic sessions, RCLEs and any associated assessment.
- The Phase 2 Anesthesia clerkship objectives and curriculum (for example CARs, DTS, Aquifer cases). RCLEs and any associated assessment.
- The Phase 1 Anesthesia curriculum and any associated assessment.
- Any relevant curriculum renewal (gaps/redundancies) initiatives as per the UME Program Curriculum Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Process to the UME Curriculum Committee.
- Developing leveled educational activities/sessions to help deliver the Anesthesia curriculum.

It is anticipated that the majority of duties can be carried out asynchronously and as such communication with Chairs of Introduction to Clinical Medicine, Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics I and II and the Anesthesia Section Chair may be completed by email or phone.

Committee Meetings

Attend Committee meetings for:

- UME Curriculum Committee
- Anesthesia Section meetings
- Relevant local or national Anesthesia Undergraduate groups or any committees delegated by CMT Chair.

Liaise regularly with the Chairs of ICM, CMT I and CMT II and attend meetings at their invitation.

Qualifications

Education

- Doctor of Medicine degree.
- Possession of a current license to practice medicine in the province of Ontario.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Must have (or be eligible for) a faculty appointment with NOSM U.
- Preference will be given to NOSM U faculty residing in Northern Ontario.

Language

- Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension).
- French/Indigenous language skills would be considered an asset.

Remuneration

- As per the stipendiary faculty remuneration process.

Time Commitment

- Four tenths (0.4) of a day per week.
