Exceldor Cooperative is looking for an experienced and results-driven person to join the Research & Development department at their Hanover, Ontario location. Reporting to the Director of R&D, the incumbent will independently manage research and development projects related to the design of new products, the improvement of existing products, and the optimization of product processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Organizes, directs, and coordinates multidisciplinary project teams according to the company’s priorities.
2. Ensures that project updates are communicated to different stakeholders.
3. Develops new product formulation based on company strategy.
4. Ensures that product specifications are sustainable and meet the target and that timelines are met.
5. Conducts laboratory tests and coordinates production tests.
6. Facilitates research and development projects at various facilities including our Blumenort Manitoba processing plant.
7. Researches and meets external resources (supplies, research centre, etc.) to evaluate and recommend new suppliers’ ingredients and concepts.
8. Analyzes results, prepares technical reports, and makes recommendations.
9. Leads the organization and operation of the internal sensory evaluation panel.
10. Ensures that the start-up of the product corresponds to the specifications and is responsible for at least 5 productions or until the operations are stable.
11. Maintains effective communications with consumers and suppliers on issues related to food safety and resolves complaints/problem issues.
12. Assists Quality Assurance and Operations personnel during complaint investigations to identify areas of improvement.
13. Conducts constant market watch.
14. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:

1. Bachelor of Science in Food Technology, Food Engineering, Process/Industrial Engineering, Microbiology, Nutrition, Dietetics, and/or Relevant Experience.
2. Five (5) years of product development experience in the agri-food industry, including experience in project management. Experience in the meat industry is an asset.
3. In-depth knowledge of CFIA processes, ingredients, laws, and standards (labelling, recipe formulation, meat cut nomenclature, etc.).
4. In-depth knowledge of the best food product development methods.
5. Experience in the development of processed poultry products.
6. Culinary experience/training is an asset.
7. Basic nutrition knowledge.
8. Must possess strong interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
9. The successful candidate will be organized and results-oriented.
10. Able to exercise timely and good judgment in day-to-day business decisions.
