Qulliq Energy Corporation

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is entrusted to provide safe, reliable power to all customers in Nunavut. Owned by the Government of Nunavut and operated as an arms-length territorial corporation, QEC is the sole provider of electricity and district heating in Nunavut. In comparison to other utilities in Canada, QEC faces unique challenges as it operates 25 stand-alone diesel power generation facilities and distribution systems located in each of the territory's communities.

Senior Accountant (QEC-25-009)

Baker Lake, Nunavut

Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will assist the Controller in the full cycle accounting, analysis and support. In this role, the incumbent will also assist in the timely and accurate preparation of the financial statements and all other financial and regulatory reporting activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Review and manage general ledger accounts and account reconciliations in a timely manner.
2. Responsible for fixed assets and amortization.
3. Assist the Controller with internal and external reporting, including variance analysis and KPIs.
4. Assist with the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
5. Assist with ad-hoc projects, financial analysis, and decision support information.
6. Coordinate month-end and year-end closing activities, including preparation of adjusting accounting entries for audit working papers.
7. Assist with internal and external audits.
8. Provide support and backup to Finance staff as required.
9. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications Include:

1. Bachelor's degree in business or commerce with a major in accounting.
2. Completion, or near completion of an accounting designation (CPA, CMA, or CGA) is required.
3. Minimum 5 years working experience in a business environment in the accounting field.

Assets:

1. Experience with public sector accounting is an asset.
2. Experience in the supervision and development of staff an asset.
3. Knowledge of Nunavut, the land, language and culture an asset.
4. The ability to speak Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun and/or French an asset.

A combination of education and equivalent experience may be considered.

We offer a competitive starting salary range of $122,013.83 to $143,590.62 and a northern living allowance of $24,281.00 per annum. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including a defined-benefit pension program. In addition, subsidized staff housing is available for this position. This position is not included in the Nunavut Employee's Union.

Preference will be given to Nunavut Inuit.
