Position Overview
We’re hiring a Conservation and Energy Management (C&EM) Engineer who’s ready to turn innovative ideas into real energy and cost savings for our customers. If you’re passionate about sustainability and thrive on solving complex challenges, this is your opportunity to make meaningful impact. This position provides engineering oversight and technical support to the C&EM programs and to ensure compliance with internal and external policies.
The C&EM Engineer is responsible for identifying new and innovative energy saving technologies; evaluating and reviewing energy savings measures and projects in C&EM programs; developing tools and plans to support C&EM programs; and working on codes and standards for energy saving measures.
If you’re looking for meaningful work, a collaborative environment, and forward-thinking colleagues, come build your career with us.
In this role, you will:
- Prepare and review energy saving calculations to confirm Demand Side Management (DSM) incentives in the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors for soundness and company protocols, and create and maintain relevant supporting data/documentation control.
- Develop integrated DSM plans for budgeting, BCUC filings, long-term resource plans, and other required purposes and the delivery of those plans. Coordinate engineering activities to determine and justify plans and timing of plans to internal and external stakeholders. Research and evaluate technical and economic DSM measures and initiatives.
- Perform independent audits of customers’ premises and proposed projects, to ensure compliance with DSM operations; implement sub metering where necessary; and prepare engineering recommendations. Gather and perform in-depth analysis of metering data. Evaluate data/observations and prepare technical report of findings. Liaise with consultants conducting customer facility audits and reports.
- Provide technical support and training to EITs and co-ops. Provide technical resources to the C&EM department by creating and updating energy efficiency material and utility energy service programs for all audiences. Provide other technical direction related to DSM findings and issues for FortisBC.
- Identify and evaluate new and innovative energy saving technologies for inclusion in DSM programs. Conduct and lead detailed analysis and investigative work that may involve and impact multiple teams and identify solutions based on that analysis. Work on energy-efficiency codes and standards with standards-making bodies including CSA. Represent FortisBC in public forums about utility energy services programs.
What it takes:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical preferred), plus a minimum of four (4) years relevant experience in an energy related field, preferably in Demand Side Management.
- Active registration with EGBC as a Professional Engineer.
- Direct utility experience is an asset.
- Knowledge of energy efficient technologies and energy systems.
- Possess a solid understanding of engineering principles and practices.
- Strong project management skills to effectively manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Comprehensive knowledge of quality control standards.
- Knowledge of safe work practices, policies, and procedures.
- Strong troubleshooting capabilities.
- Technical leadership and strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Effective communication through presentations and public information sessions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, with particular strength in Excel.
In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.
Our engaging workplace offers a wide range of challenging opportunities, while being safe, inclusive and diverse. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, while supporting life-long career development. We also encourage volunteerism and nourish the need to give back to your community.
